Help Disabling volume buttons turning on camera.

So my husband and I upgraded to the Volt on Thanksgiving due to the great sale. We're both really happy with it except for one issue. My husband and I discovered that the volume buttons will activate the camera when in a lock screen.

I can see how this would be a good feature, however its driving my husband nuts. The camera turns on while in his holster and he ends up with 50 pics of his pocket at the end of the day.

I have no issue with mine turning on by itself but our cases are slightly different. Is there a way to deactivate this feature? I tried covering the sensors and the camera turns on no matter what.

We are not tech savvy people at all so layman's terms are very much appreciated. Thanks for any help!

Holding + volume button while phone is locked does indeed open camera using stock app. Never realized it did that. Don't have any widgets on lock screen so has to be feature of stock camera app. Couldn't find any obvious settings anywhere to disable.
Still nothing here... Must be because I uninstalled the stock camera?
I hold vol+ and get a little vibrate after a few seconds, but nothing actually happens. Same with vol-.

I also have pattern lock on.

On my stock Volt with stock camera, if you open camera and go into settings (gear), there is an option that says "volume key" - press it. It has 2 options -"Capture" and "Zoom". Select "Zoom" and see if that fixes the issue.

Update - tried it and it didn't help. :( I didn't even know you could start the camera that way. It has not been an issue for me because of the resistance of my case over that button.

Your husband and I were in the same boat, before I found Noyze Volume Panel, I ended up with no storage and was puzzled to find 1,364 black photos. This is an odd solution but it is the only one that I know of.

If you haven't already, enable unknown sources in settings under security and install the apk linked to above.

Open noyze volume panel and enable it and its accessibility feature, then customize it as you wish.

You should no longer have the camera launch on the lock screen, but if you have any issues, let me know so I can try to troubleshoot why it's not working for you.

Hope it works!

His case must be also pressing the virtual shutter button. On mine, the volume down will cause the camera app to open on top of the lock screen (after a vibrate), but it does not take a picture. It just sets there until the on screen shutter button is pressed.

Yes that was my issue too, but now that I have Noyze Volume Panel enabled, pressing and holding the volume buttons when the phone is locked does nothing except make the phone vibrate once and then nothing else happens. I am EXTREMELY baffled as to why this prevents the camera app from launching, it must have something to do with the fact that noyze replaces the volume panel without root. I discovered it by accident long after I gave up on finding a solution to the issue, but now that I have a solution, Noyze is an essential app for me on this phone.

Not sure if you still have this problem or not, But I have a solution for you. I had the same trouble and I downloaded the google camera and was hoping to uninstall the stock camera. Well it is either impossible to uninstall or is too much trouble so its still on my phone. However, now when my phone is in my pocket and I accidentally hold the volume button long enough to activate the camera, rather than the camera taking 160 pics of the inside of my pocket, I get the screen asking which camera to use. Kinda sucks to have 2 cameras installed on the phone but it's worth it not to have to delete all those pics every few days.

This is such a simple fix. thank you. :)

Necropost, but this is a top match when searching issue using google, so replying for others who reach this page the same way.

Same issue occurs with my V20. I think it's ridiculous that touching down vol bypasses lock screen to turn on camera and developers gave NO option to change / disable!

Anyway, got google camera and set vol keys to be vol keys. (Side benefit: no rapid fire photos just cuz I touch them when turning phone sideways.)

Then, turned OFF Camera permission for native camera app! So now if I accidentally touch vol down grabbing my phone or taking out of pocket, the f***ing camera CAN'T start! Just get a warning message instead.
