Forward Yahoo Mail to Gmail Free!

How did you get it to work...I tried manual and got a couldn't connect error. I did it the other way and got a not available for free users message

I didn't do it manually I just put in my info and it did the rest. I'm using K-9 now and I only put in my account info and it automatically pulled everything else down. The problem with the native app is that it doesn't delete emails from the server and junk mail goes to inbox instead of bulk, so I am using K-9 and it seems to work fine.

I still don't get why people use yahoo / hotmail / etc when gmail is so much better and free...

I think that's partly the point of this thread. Usually the downside of changing email address is having to update every account on every website and telling everyone you know your new address and hoping they remember. Hence a way to forward your yahoo to gmail for free.

I've been using Gmail since it was in beta but I still very occasionally have to access my old hotmail account.

Still works. Thanks.

Only if you have an older account. I don't know what the cutoff date/year is, but it definitely doesn't work for my Ymail account. I think someone said it earlier, and the setting isn't there. There's a slightly larger space in the left pane where the option to forward is.

I'm currently forwarding two other Yahoo! accounts to my Gmail, though. On second thought, maybe it's the domain. The two accounts I'm forwarding are in the yahoo domain.

I am having an issue with this. For some reason after I forward my email to Gmail it will NOT show up in my inbox, it shows up under "all mail" which WOULD be ok other than the fact that it doesn't notify me on my phone nor on my firefox addon if mail arrives in all mail. Why isn't it going straight to my inbox?

The problem with gmail is you cant turn threaded email off, no preview pane...labels suck compared to having just regular folders. yahoo is the best web based email out...i figured most people were just using gmail because they were forced to with their android phones.

yahoo, you can have multiple email addresses on one account...without having to go through that screwy import where you have to guess if your replies are gonna be from gmail or the account you imported.

with yahoo plus you get disposable email addresses that you can create/delete at any time. which is awesome...and you just have too many steps to do things in gmail....you have to click on spam, then click on delete all spam messages where as in yahoo you just click "empty" beside the word spam and man try to selectively delete individual messages that Gmail has grouped all together like its one big chat session...annoying

So this trick only kinda works for me...

I have 2 primary Yahoo email accounts. On one of them I went thru the procedure and it worked perfectly. On the other account the POP option is simply not there! I tried several different countries and it never showed up as an option...wtc? Anyon know why it would vary by account???

Just thought I would share a little information I have found with my fellow Droid owners.

This guide will allow you to (freely) forward your Yahoo! email to a newly created (or old) Gmail Account for easier integration with your Droid (or other Android Devices) without paying the $20 a month Yahoo! requires for premium service.

First create your Gmail account if you do not already have one.
Also I am coming from the "New Yahoo"

Step 1: Sign into Yahoo Mail

Step 2: Click options on the upper right hand corner of your screen. Select to switch to Yahoo Mail Classic

Step 3: In the top left hand corner is your name. Highlight it and select "Account Info". It will ask you to put your password in again.

Step 4: Under Account Setting click "Set language, site, time-zone."

Step:5 Click New Setting and change it to Yahoo! Asia. Also accept the new Terms of Agreement.

You should now see a Yahoo! Asia logo on your homescreen.

We can now enable POP access and Email Forwarding without the $20 a normal member would pay.

Step 6: Click options again in the top right hand corner. Then Mail Options.

Step 7: On the left of the screen select POP and Forwarding. Then Set up or edit Pop and Forwarding.

A new Window/Tab should appear

Step 8: Click the bubble next to forwarding and enter in your new gmail account. Click Save.

Step 9: Send Verification

Step 10: Go to your gmail and grab the confirmation code and go back to the Yahoo! and enter. Enter password again.

You have now set-up Yahoo! to forward all incoming emails to your Gmail Account :)

Transferring your Contacts from Yahoo to Gmail

Step 1: Open your Gmail account. Go to Settings.

Step 2: Click on the "Accounts and Import" Tab. Enter the passwords for your Yahoo! mail account.

Step 3: Select the import options you want to use. You can decide to import all your contacts as well as old mail.

WOW, THANKS! Yahoo email was driving me nuts! Many thanks!

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but anyone get this to work recently??

Just followed all the steps and sent a test e-mail to my yahoo account and it didn't auto forward to my gmail account.

Edit: Nevermind, got it to work!! Thanks a lot.
I didn't set my g-mail as the "primary" in my account info.

Kinda sux how you cant have a copy in the yahoo mail, but o well.

It must depend upon when and how you opened your yahoo email account. Two of my yahoo email accounts have free pop forwarding (I may have originally opened these two under Yahoo Canada). The third one required that I upgrade to Yahoo Mail Plus at $20 per year to get pop forwarding (This one may have been opened using Yahoo US, but I can't remember because I have been using it so long).

The Yahoo Android mobile app is free and works pretty well.
