Root Help Please! Re Lock Nexus 6

I haven't posted here in a LONG TIME, but I figured my friends at Phandroid could help. I need to send my Nexus 6 back to Motorola due to a camera issue. I have scoured the internet for a way that will work for me to re-lock my device, but i am striking out (I have been able to un-root however). My big problem right now is that for some reason, my computer is not seeing my phone as a device. I have been trying to follow this video (

), but when i plug my phone in, I dont think the proper drivers are installed. I have mild rooting/unlocking experience (i have done so on my last 5 phones/tablets), though i really dont want to screw something up. I followed the above video's steps and get to where the "dead android" comes up, but then i have no luck getting back to a factory recovery (and I am still unlocked). Currently when i try to go into recovery, i get the "dead android" every time (I had TWRP previously). Anyone have any thoughts/tips for me? An online guide or video that you could point me to would be great. Thanks for your help in advance.

So I quickly resolved my stock recovery issue. Still could use some help on how to re-lock the bootloader. Everything else has been wiped and returned to factory. Help please!

Do you have/know how to use fastboot on your computer? If so, do

fastboot devices

to check if your Nexus is being detected. If it shows up, use

Code:

fastboot oem lock

to lock the bootloader. You'll need to be in bootloader mode to execute those commands. To get your Nexus in to bootloader mode, first power off the phone. Power it back on while holding the power and volume down buttons. When the bootloader menu pops up, you can execute the commands above.

If your phone isn't being detected by fastboot, or if you don't have the tools on your computer, I'd recommend using Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit for two reasons. First, it has a comprehensive guide and utilities to remove and reinstall drivers for your Nexus, and second, it has essentially a one-click bootloader lock utility baked in. It will automatically boot your device to the bootloader, and execute the locking commands.

Worked like a charm! I did have some issue with my drivers previously... not sure what happened, but all is good now. The only thing I wonder now is whether or not Motorola is going to know that i unlocked and relocked. Is my bootloader status code of 2 indicative of a relocked bootloader? I know unlocked was status code 3. Thoughts?

Well I just received my replacement device and the boot loader status code for it was also 2. Unless they sent me a refurb that was previously unlocked, I should be good to go. Thanks again for the help.

For anyone who sees this in the future via a search result:

Boot Unlocker for Nexus Devices will allow you to re-lock your bootloader and reset your tamper flag while rooted, and then you just flash the factory image and nobody is the wiser

It may not be updated for the nexus 6 yet (I haven't tested it), but its worth a shot to anyone else who comes across this.

This has been useful for me, I am in the same position and I too am wondering what the status code 2 means.........

If you got a new device and it too was status code 2 then that's good news.....

what was wrong with the device to send it back? would it be a replacement or repair?

I'm not sure what the status code means, but I can verify that both my re-locked/unrooted device and the replacement device they sent both had a status code 2. When my original device was unlocked, it had an unlock status of 3.

My original device had a camera hardware issue. They shipped me a replacement (required a $500 hold on my credit card until they received my original device back - this allowed them to send my new device prior to me sending them the defective device which allowed me to have a phone throughout the process). This was all through Motorola directly (I purchased through Motorola). It was a pretty smooth process, but I stress that you write down the tracking number from the prepaid packaging that they send you to return the old device. I had some issues with FedEx and it was a pain in the ass to figure out what the routing # was.

Also, the new device may be a "refurb", though it was in a new box and came in brand new condition. I have had no issues with the replacement device.

I am in UK and sent from Scotland to England using the pre paid packaging Motorola provided, a tracking number was provided and it was signed and delivered this morning, so I know they have it.....

There is a website for the repair people that lets you track their progress with the IMEI, but I am yet to gain access to that information yet....

Are you in the states?

Is there different warranty policy over there than there is here do you think?

If you have received a brand new device and it says status code 2, then they would need to dig deeper to find any evidence it has been previously unlocked, which I don't think they will do.

I would imagine the technicians may flash stock themselves, which would need an unlock of the bootloader..........

Yes I am in the states.... No clue on any differences in policy. . Another thing, the day after the phone was received, the $500 hold was released. I honestly don't know that they take much time looking through the returned devices.

FYI, from the market description: "Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are not supported yet.".

I think osm0sis has a flashable zip or script that will do the lock, but segv11's not yet got the N6 ready for the app.
