Help Upadate Google: Not enough room

It seems my phone memory is nearly full as recently Google could not update due to not enough room. I have lots of spare room on the SD card and where possible have installed my downloaded apps to the card.

I would like to transfer some of the pre-installed apps to the card but the options to do that is greyed out.

OR I would really like to remove some pre-installed apps that I do not want or use. I have read here that you need to 'root' the phone but have no idea what that even is!

I have no use for Google play Books, movies, magazines and many others, if I attempt to uninstall them there is a warning that this may cause errors, if i uninstall updates it they just update themselves again.

Any suggestions?
