Help How do I delete the lollipop update ?

I don't know either, wish I did, but I am willing to betcha it is in a Linux protected folder that you and I cannot access unless we root the phone and gain SuperSu status. If you can root your phone right now, and delete the .com.update.android.xyz file you can prevent it forever.

since the download has already happened, and If you are with Verizon, you have 3 chances to delay the inevitable, then it will reboot and install regardless of how you feel about it. I spent 45 minutes on the phone yesterday with Samsung Technical support. Very nice lady, and her heart was bleating just like mine, she does not want 5.0 on her Galaxy S5 either.

Me? I got wind of this occurring before my phones had a chance to download it in the first place. You see, I control the internet in my house.... both of my phones go dead silent when asleep, MacroDroid turns off WiFi and MobileData when the screens are locked. MD turns both back ON when we unlock the screens.

but, when this VZW 5.0 stuff started yesterday, I changed the macros to force both WiFi and Data to be permanently OFF until I am convinced it is safe to allow 5.0 to install... and not a minute sooner.

1st you need to turn on Rotation
then you need to goto Settings/apps/app mgr/ALL

now roll the phone over horizontal, if you don't, you cannot see all of the name of each app.

I just now turned OFF config.updater

IIRC that app is for Play Store to use.... we shall see when something does not work right. It can always be turned back ON.

I just found two files named Samsung:

Samsung Update blue icon SU which I found on the Play Store belonging to eVeek, I uninstalled it. I used to do consulting work for them.... so long eVeek.

Samsung Updates red icon showing a Briefcase, I turned it OFF

Now, I am tempted to turn WiFi back on but I am going to wait until tomorrow and see how this plays out for a while.
no clue what these two do

My phone is 'not rooted' just a regular phone I took off shelf and didn't install anything fancy; didn't 'root'.

I know of a way to delay the inevitable just hope I'm not too late to inform you all. First let me say there isn't any way to cancel the download of the update; but theres a way to cancel the installation of the update.

OH PS. If you unsure of this: please backup all data and such prior to doing this task

Step 1. When it says "Download Complete Ready to Install" Turn off Device
Step 2: Recovery Mode: Hold Down the Volume (ooh if you have the Galaxy s5 its the left TOP button) Top button; hold down the Home Button and Power on the Device.

If you did that step correctly you should see Blue Wording saying "Recovery Mode"
If you did it incorrectly and it says "Custom Rom OS" don't touch anything and remove battery for 30seconds and repeat Step 2; one more time; make sure you're holding down and keeping down Top Button (Volume); Home Button, Power until Recovery mode appears

Step 3: Scroll Down to "Clear Cache Data", hit Power button once (which selects it)
(this step doesn't erase anything off your phone, trust me I've done it; when you download an OTA clearing cache erases that)
Step 4: Repeat two more times
Step 5: It should default to "Reboot Now"..........do it; Reboot
Step 6: Once phone is back online it will say "Install Update"
Step 7: Hit "Install the update"
Step 8: If you watch the Android Guy it will say Error and Reboot phone
Step 9: It should say "Update failed; no changes made"

Voila! Its an annoying process but if you want to delay the installation of an update there ya go! Repeat Daily!

In December Verizon was pushing an update to my device that solved VPN and SD Card issues. I've had the device since release I've never once had any problems with SD card issues; and I'm not a business manager thing so VPN wasn't needed for my phone either

So for a month and a half every morning I would turn phone off; boot in recovery mode clear cache a few times and install the update which fails

that is a PITA ordeal to have to go thru on daily basis.

but, I have noted it in my notebook....
I simply turned off the internet, and I have never seen a single notice to update my phone.

When I need something during the day, I turn on MobileData and do my thing... done with that, I turn off MobileData again. Actually MacroDroid does that for me automatically. Hit the Power Button to put it to sleep, and whamo!!! no data, no WiFi until I purposely turn one of them on manually.

I am done with WiFi now that VZW is pushing LolliFLOP on us, my phone is set to update via WiFi only, so since I am not turning that back on, it won't happen.

But that all said, I now know what to do if I see that notice.
thanks for that bit of knowledge.

MacroDroid senses Screen off, turns Wifi & Data OFF
MacroDroid senses Screen on, turns WiFi & Data ON, um,
well it used to until VZW 5.0 appeared, now it is disabled.

For those on Verizon, Root the device, mount /system read/write (ES File Explorer) and delete 'sdm.apk' from /system/app and reboot. no more forced OTA.
IIRC, once on 4.4.4 there isn't a root method that works.
You will have to use ODIN to back up the OS to an early version.... I think it was prior to June of 2014?

I seem to remember reading that the guy who wrote Towelroot was hired by Google and quit developing it further.

Seriously? There has been root for 4.4.4 forever. Even my late Galaxy S3 with a 4.4.4 rom could get root
I left off a bit of important stuff, this is for the Verizon S5 with the locked bootloader. From the reading I have done, we have to back up the OS so that Towelroot will perform the root.

If you have more info, I would like to know of it.

The threads that I have been reading is that no one is working on rooting the Verizon or AT&T Galaxy S5 phones anymore.

I personally would like to stay on 4.4.4, it does everything that I have a need for, I like the color saturation because I am Pastel Color Blind.... and all of those Lollipop washed out screenshots I have been seeing are atrocious. Not for me.

I seem to recall that I liked 4.4.2 better than 4.4.4, but I have "adjusted it seems" to where I now don't remember how 4.4.2 worked.

I have never used an iPhone so have no comparisons to feel out against/for TouchWiz. TW is all I have known in smartphones. Never had enough $$$ to play with other phones "just because".

ie, my original smartphone is a Galaxy S Fascinate which is still registered and in use on Verizon. While it still works fairly well, it is not competitive in today's technology. It can use 3g if available. When I first bought the phone, 1x was all that ever showed up on that phone. Made me wonder what all the "hoopla" is about for smartphones. Then a few months later, the indicator started showing 3g and holy cow, the browser actually works :D

I'd like to go back to 4.4 as well.

Lollipop does nothing better for me. There are several changes, which are a wash, but there hasn't been any improvements for me. There have been a bunch of noticeable steps backwards. mainly, it's slower, notifications are worse and battery life is worse.

I really wish I hadn't updated

I downgraded to 4.4.4 from lollipop using the above guide, it eventually worked. 4.4.2 and .4 are different though as 4.4.4 is what I thought I had but many things are different looking, mostly the text messaging, but also some settings and menu items. I like it but wish I could root it. I may try going back to 4.4.2, then rooting, I've just got to back up the phone really well somehow since verizons backup didn't work at all.

forget Verizon's backup, use
* Super Backup : SMS & Contacts - Android Apps on Google Play

Pictures you can download directly from the phone to your PC via USB.

for your important contacts and SMS and Apps, call logs, Calendars, Bookmarks.

be sure to put them on something local like your PC after backing up to the extSDcard....
for contacts I send those to my email address and to extSDcard, and local PC storage.
