What has been the experience been wit, and subsequent to, the Sprint M8 5.01 update? Any problems (yet)? Did your phone require a factory reset!
Mine is rooted and I won't be taking the update until I have all of my preferred customizations lined up and ready.

I expect my wife's unrooted M8 to get the notice today.

Per usual with any major update on an unrooted phone, almost a certainty that I'll just do a factory data reset right away rather than wait and see.

It'll be anecdotal but not significant.

Having things tangled under the hood is like rain.

You can ask a hundred people if you need an umbrella today but if they live two states over, any correct advice will be coincidental.

This update is going to be bad weather for some and sunny skies for others.

I've personally seen one sunny day and the rest full of rain when updating WifelyMon's phone over the years lol.

I like to just get it all over with at the time of the upgrade, but that's just me. She doesn't mind redoing her screens if I don't mind setting up her emails lmao.

Just two cents.

Best luck to us all!

Updated my HTC One M8 last night and have had nothing but problems. The phone doesn't run smooth and it is very jerky. Download of apps is also very slow. The text and email notifications don't clear after you remove them. Also I don't like the removal of the calendar widget from the lock screen...I was hoping they would actually make this functional but that didn't happen. The tech at the Sprint store said I was a lucky guy...many folks brought their phone in because it was just hung up trying to update...the phones would just keep cycling and never boot. The store is just replacing the phones at this time as there's nothing that they can do. The tech flashed the OS on my phone directly from Sprint's computer and it didn't make any difference. The tech said that they think HTC released the OTA update too soon before getting all the bugs worked out. Here's hoping ya'll have better luck than alot of us. Also, every time the phone boots I get a screen that says "Android Updating - Starting Apps"

Oh man, I'm really sorry to hear that. I wish I could tell you that I had issues too, and how I solved them, but I can't. The only issue I have is potentially lowered battery life. I will consider a factory reset if I determine that it's worse. Have you tried to reset yours?

My experience overall is quite good so far. Everything is fast and works just fine, and the user experience is even nicer than KitKat. There's a WiFi Calling toggle in the notifications pull-down (is that what you call it?). I had been wanting that since they introduced WiFi calling.

I do not want to be in the position of having to do a factory reset and rebuilding my phone after an "update". Would "wiping the Cache Partition" and clearing "junk files" help to decrease the need for factory reset?

If only we had capability similar to that of iPhones to replicate our phones' setups on reset (or new) phones merely by connecting them to a server WITHOUT THE NEED TO ROOT the devices!

Yesterday my Moto 360 died after only 7 hours of the charger (previously could go 30+ hours between charges). I reset the watch (after having cleared cache partition on my phone) and today it looks a little better, but not back to normal:

I know with Lollipop on my phone we got some new features for hiding notifications on the watch, but I'm hoping I will get back to a more normal battery life over the next few days.

I'm going to assume that you've seen my other posts on this.

There's no way to predict if the stuff under the hood will get tangled or not, nor to what extent if it does.

Some people have reported success just clearing cache on major updates, but more have reported needing the factory data reset.

I still recommend a good backup strategy. In addition to helping with factory data resets, they help when your phone is lost or stolen.

If you switch to Nova from the stock launcher, you can back up your home screens setup as well.

I'm not going to comment on the backup strategy for a phone with less features. One of my daughters would still like to know how her iPhone got borked on the last update doing everything right. The grass is always greener.

It always rains somewhere at some time.

So with the Lollipop update, I've noticed my M8 is much faster and much smoother, but on the other hand I'm having the hardest time sending SMS messages and receiving MMS messages. Debating on doing a Factory Reset, but I don't feel like re-customizing all my apps and such again.
Try dialing ###72786# upper right, Menu, reset, confirm if necessary and WAIT while it does its thing. Don't panic, it needs a little time to reprovision the settings.

Then settings, update, and update PRL and Profile, in that order.
