Nexus 7 rendered useless

Lol999

Hi, hope someone can offer some sane advice regarding my cherished Nexus 7.
It's the wifi model, and since I installed Lollipop it has been the biggest waste of time known to man.
It wasn't so good with Kitkat but Lollipop has reduced it to a glacial like speed of processing, apps such as Chrome, facebook etc keep freezing and locking to the point where I'm ready for binning it and getting a Windows tablet!

I did try some things suggested on the Daily Telegraph site such as clearing cache and altering Window animation scale etc and it seemed to work, but just a few days later and it's dragging it's heels again.

is there ANYTHING I can do to get this thing flying again? It used to be a joy to use, it could outpace my swiping and selecting etc but now it moves like treacle!

many thanks, Lol.

I note this is Nexus7 (2013) forum. My tablet is Nexus7 (2012).
I had similar symptoms to Lol999 after the 5.0.2 OTA update recently.
I switched on Battery Saver mode and everything started functionning well. I switched Battery Saver off again and everything still OK.
I have switched tablet 2 or 3 times now and all seems OK.
I can only assume that some corruption of the new Battery Save occurred during download.

Sorry for the delay in replying, been a bit busy with work. The factory reset did solve quite a few of the issues. I also found that changing from Nova Launcher to the stock Android one also made a lot of difference with regards to locking up and generally being slow. I have to say though that Chrome on the Nexus 7 is a bag of poo (unlike on my Nexus 4 which is still very good) and so I have had to change to Dolphin which works fairly well. The Facebook app also freezes a bit sometimes but again nothing like it did under the Nova launcher.
All in all it's better than it was, but still not as good as when I first owned it :-(

Just like to add that it absolutely sucks the life out of the battery now, need to charge it every day which never used to be the case.

I have a 2013 wifi, and I was so fed up with poor video performance under kitkat I went back to 4.3 jellybean. I suggest you revert and block future updates. All the info you need is on the web.
The security flaws in jellybean are enough to not want that. Eeks. KitKat was solid for me. But now humming along on lollipop. Jellybean? Naaaahhhhh.

5.1 is your answer....

Flashed it today.... Then did a full factory reset before installing anything...

Tablet operates 10 times better considering the old hardware...

My lag is gone.... Chrome seems to be up to speed.... But haven't installed Facebook yet...

Those were the 2 major causes of the issues I had with 5.0.2. Once I uninstalled Facebook, the tablet was somewhat usable...

Now.... I just flashed today (3/11)..... It's working great as of now.... Here's hoping it stays that way...
