Help How do I delete the lollipop update ?

I have got use to it, nothing seems to be worse, battery life is just the same if not better. I certainly have not experienced all the pleathera of problems listed here ! :- ( I don't know what people do to thier phones to have such adverse affects

That's because you are in the UK and on stock Samsung Lollipop and not in the USA on Verizon's own version of Lollipop which is less than satisfactory.

1st you need to turn on Rotation
then you need to goto Settings/apps/app mgr/ALL

now roll the phone over horizontal, if you don't, you cannot see all of the name of each app.

I just now turned OFF config.updater

IIRC that app is for Play Store to use.... we shall see when something does not work right. It can always be turned back ON.

I just found two files named Samsung:

Samsung Update blue icon SU which I found on the Play Store belonging to eVeek, I uninstalled it. I used to do consulting work for them.... so long eVeek.

Samsung Updates red icon showing a Briefcase, I turned it OFF

Now, I am tempted to turn WiFi back on but I am going to wait until tomorrow and see how this plays out for a while.
no clue what these two do
I have none of those file names you mentioned in my app manager. Any other way to stop the Lollipop update from installing?

For those on Verizon, Root the device, mount /system read/write (ES File Explorer) and delete 'sdm.apk' from /system/app and reboot. no more forced OTA.
Thank you for that little gem. It used to be that once you were custom, you didn't need to deal with OTAs anymore. Apparently that is not the case because the Lollipop update popped up on mine. I am rooted on 4.4.2. I renamed mine to "sdm.apk.hidden.2.stop.ota.updates" and restarted the phone.

I agonized over rooting my phone because it looked like it was more for propeller heads. Today, I'm super happy that I rooted. Rooting is needed by guys like me, Joe T. Businessman. I've watched the benefits multiply over time. Rooting is the only way you can get a full backup of your phone, the only way certain useful apps work, and the only sure way to prevent OTA updates that you don't like, will mess up some of your current apps, and limit you. Each update since Jelly Bean limits you more and more, and the new capabilities the new OSes bring are available in apps that you can install AND UNINSTALL. If I wanted a phone that I had no control over, I would have bought an iPhone. If corporations have certain secure apps that require locked boot loaders and KNOX, then let them install it. I think it's fair that tech support can refuse you support if you don't flash back to stock, but I won't accept limiting my productivity with their crippled apps, and prevent me from using store apps so they can force me into keeping my information on their servers and make me a hostage to their "cloud" monthly revenue schemes. A used phone that can be rooted is worth way more than a new one that can't.

My phone is 'not rooted' just a regular phone I took off shelf and didn't install anything fancy; didn't 'root'.

I know of a way to delay the inevitable just hope I'm not too late to inform you all. First let me say there isn't any way to cancel the download of the update; but theres a way to cancel the installation of the update.

OH PS. If you unsure of this: please backup all data and such prior to doing this task

Step 1. When it says "Download Complete Ready to Install" Turn off Device
Step 2: Recovery Mode: Hold Down the Volume (ooh if you have the Galaxy s5 its the left TOP button) Top button; hold down the Home Button and Power on the Device.

If you did that step correctly you should see Blue Wording saying "Recovery Mode"
If you did it incorrectly and it says "Custom Rom OS" don't touch anything and remove battery for 30seconds and repeat Step 2; one more time; make sure you're holding down and keeping down Top Button (Volume); Home Button, Power until Recovery mode appears

Step 3: Scroll Down to "Clear Cache Data", hit Power button once (which selects it)
(this step doesn't erase anything off your phone, trust me I've done it; when you download an OTA clearing cache erases that)
Step 4: Repeat two more times
Step 5: It should default to "Reboot Now"..........do it; Reboot
Step 6: Once phone is back online it will say "Install Update"
Step 7: Hit "Install the update"
Step 8: If you watch the Android Guy it will say Error and Reboot phone
Step 9: It should say "Update failed; no changes made"

Voila! Its an annoying process but if you want to delay the installation of an update there ya go! Repeat Daily!

In December Verizon was pushing an update to my device that solved VPN and SD Card issues. I've had the device since release I've never once had any problems with SD card issues; and I'm not a business manager thing so VPN wasn't needed for my phone either

So for a month and a half every morning I would turn phone off; boot in recovery mode clear cache a few times and install the update which fails

DO NOT USE THIS METHOD ON T-MOBILE S5 WITH THE "T" VARIANT. I did and 5.1.1 is happily "upgrading" my phone!!! Not Happy 146 does not even begin to describe....

Yes, that post was for the Verizon cloneware model, G900V. See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide. Has T-Mobile (USA) removed the stock Samsung firmware feature to disable auto updates, in Settings About device > Software updates > Auto update?

What I did to stop the notification to upgrade (Granted I am rooted) was I used root uninstaller (any app that freezes apps will work) search for "Software Update.apk"... for me there was 2 of them for some reason... I froze them and the notification for the upgrade went away... I don't know if it erased the download, but it stopped the upgrade process
