Root [Boost Mobile] Noob Rom Flash MOARv9.0

Ive read multiple forum posts and tried to do my due diligence before just asking "How Do I do this"? I have A rooted S3 SPH-L710 Philz Touch. AP:L710VPUCNJ3 CP:L710VPUCNJ3 CSC: L710SPTCNJ3. I decided to take the plunge and flash MOAR 9.0. I was able to flash the Rom and get the phone to boot. Once the phone booted I couldnt turn on the wifi. It just wouldnt turn on. I figured I had the wrong modem so I grabbed SPH-L710_MK5_modem.zip and flashed it. I had wifi but no cell service just a red x by the bar meter. I figured it was because I did them in the wrong order. I wiped the phone cleared the cache (through philz) reloaded the modem then the MOAR same issue. During the troubleshooting of the issue I found there wasnt a display for CSC: (*#1234#) . I tried many ways to recover it including ND8 Stock, wicked x 8.0 MK3, I had a recovery file but it was corrupt due to something with MK5. I loaded an older backup and it still had the issue in addition to the wifi wouldnt turn on. This backup was older so it needed the ntc to nj3 update. I updated through keis and the phone is now working.

I would like to try a couple of ROMS but I dont want to do that again.

Any suggestions as to where I went wrong? Order of install? Version mismatch?
Is the modem for the wifi or the cell service or both?
Is the wipe phone and install a new rom in philz clearing the davlik or is there someting else I need to do?
I was hoping to do a wifi teather for my daughters tablet that is why i picked MOAR.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi welcome to the forms!

Well for starters, you can't use a modem from an older firmware. You're lucky got didn't brick your phone. I also would recommend staying away from Moar since that's an old 4.3 rom.

Check out Wicked Sensations or Wicked S5 Experience rom. And yes your should be using the wipe to install new rom feature from Philz.

A couple of things to remember with this phone. Never, ever, flash an older firmware version with Odin. And never try using a modem from an older firmware. Other than that these phones are pretty hard to mess up but those 2 things are what cause most of the problems.

Wicked s5 is really good and the developer is very active in the thread. Aosp Roms for this phone are very good too. I'm running liquid smooth lollipop. All the lollipop Roms have camera issues though. But the KitKat Roms are great, touchwiz and aosp both.

I have the S5 Experience running. Ist ok so far. Keyboard is a bit disappointing in performance. There are a couple of other little things that are meh. Ill give it some time. Took a bit of work to get everything back. Time for a back up.

All of these roms work too. Do not flash any modems. Ignore that part. All you need is rom, gapps, and apn fix. That's it.
P. S. If you don't like the keyboard just install a different one. I use Google keyboard but some ppl swear by SwiftKey.

You don't need gapps (Google apps) for TouchWiz roms like wicked s5 because they are included. Only need gapps for aosp based roms like cyanogen. But you definitely need the apn fix for Virgin in order to have data working when you flash sprint roms.
If you are still on wicked s5, then flash this in recovery and you will have data working.

P. S. If you post any comments in the wicked s5 thread please avoid words like "meh". That insults the developers who put so much work into these roms and give them away for free. It's like saying "I know you poured your blood sweat and tears into creating this and let me have it because you're so proud of it, but it really kinda sucks".

I meant no offense. Does it suck... No. The rom is pretty new and doesn't have a ton of customization yet. I think allot of the stock roms have a bunch of lackluster features as well. Think of the millions the manufactures spend on the development to only release a meh. The good news is our developers are still making them better where the manufactures just move on. Im Pretty impressed that only on the second release there arent any major issues. Wicked team seems pretty through.

All that said after running it a bit and reading the endless posts on the rom forum I found the fix for the keyboard is to just reload the language pack. So much better now. There were a few tweaks that made it much better as well. Getting rid of the magizine page for one. Im excited to see this rom progress. Maybe more customization features like the sensations rom.

Thank you for posting a link for the apn fix. I seem to have a hard time finding the downloads for the fixes. On alot of these fixes its easy to find the answer (you need the XX fix patch) but it takes alot of digging to find the actual file your looking for. Seems to be alot of dead links. Maybe im just not looking in the right places.

The link you provided is for Virgin and Im on Boost. Im assuming I need to find the booost fix.

Oops, sorry about that bro. here is the boost APN fix. Sorry, I guide a few different s3 models and must have forgotten which one I was in.
As for wicked s5, that is probably going to be the final version for a while. Its not supposed to be packed with customization. Its supposed to make your phone look like an s5. If you want mad customizations try they're wicked x. That one has tons.
And the difference is the manufacturers charge you tons for theirs, so its perfectly acceptable to complain about paying for something and being disappointed. But Indy Dev teams? Their hard work is free so, well you get the idea. :cool:

Lollipop Roms are getting pretty good too. I'm running liquid smooth lollipop. All 5.0 Roms for s3 have camera issues though. But getting open camera from play store fixes it for most. Aicp lollipop is pretty awesome too.

S5 experience seems very stable. It has a couple of cool things and has the experience of a mostly stock rom. I switched to Wicked X. I got the wow thats cool feeling that I was looking for. Very nice.

I didn't see the Tribute ROM listed here. It's great and has a lot of themes for it too. I highly recommend anything built by Bilgerryan or Chad The Pathfinder.

Tribute is bad @$$. Sorry I left it out. I'm running exodus today. Looks good. I still like liquid better.

Wicked S5 is bangin' too. Ryan is getting ready to release a theme for S5 very soon. I've seen the previews and it looks amazing.
