[OFFICIAL] LG G3 Updates/Speculation Thread

From what I'm reading on G+, only one VS985 model has the update, and he's the only one atm. He guesses it's a fluke.

I got my S4 pretty much dead - on the Lollipop look and feel thanks to root and some Xposed tweaks, not sure if LG'S skin will ruin the whole Material theme.
Yea it looks like someone else got it on a refurb and everyone ran with the story, but at least it should be close. Droid life posted a walkthrough of lollipop on the g3a while ago. You can barely tell it's lollipop so don't expect any big changes to the theme.

It sucks really mostly because many once reputable tech blogs and all of Google+ are making claims that the rollout has been going on for the Verizon variant since last week yet mine remains stuck on 4.4.2 even after a factory reset.

April 1 is still over a month away and this 'satire' isn't funny.
Blame Verizon, not LG.

I take it your giveaway is off the table then. :D

Honestly,be careful what you wish for:
I ran (sometimes still) CYANOGENMOD's variant of Lollopop (CM12) on my NOTE4.
Granted,we're not comparing apples to apples here, but, the underlying functionality is quite similar,if not darn near identical to the unadulterated variant.
You're not missing anything,at least,IMHO, & definitely not anything at all that comes to mind that would make me OOH & AAAH.
Conversely, you stand a better chance of one of your favorite apps losing functionality w/the "upgrade".
Once the update lands @ VZW,let someone else stick their toe in the water first, there's always those who will,good/bad/indifferent & pick their melon for info on what's up/app compatibility/etc.....

Just my 2 centavos,give or take a couple.................... ;)

Right now I'm blaming the tech sites making invalid claims that Verizon is rolling out lollipop when it's certainly not true. I'll give it another week and if it's stuck on 4.4.2 (maybe mine is defective?) I'll pm you. I really want to test lollipop on this phone and avoid paying full price for a Nexus 6, but if it doesn't update soon it's otherwise useless to me. It's an extra phone that I really don't need. Lollipop being promised has been the only justification for keeping it.

I don't need lollipop true. I essentially replicated the entire experience on my rooted S4 where you can't even tell it's Kitkat (as well as preserving the Sammy features such as the remote control, multi window, etc).

I would still like to test the real thing on one of the others I own, but only the G3 showed hope of that yet that hope is quickly dying off. I can't root the G3 since the last OTA (which I mistakenly took thinking it was lollipop) killed the option, locked the boatloader so tight that even if I could root, I can't install a rom that runs lollipop.

I am on the fence right now. I paid full price for the G3 so no worries regarding contract or the like. But the thing keeping me from giving it away right now is the promise that it gets the update. I'm just trying to avoid paying for a Nexus 6 and find out my nano SIM won't work. (doesn't Verizon refuse to allow a Nexus 6 on their network?) plus I'm not a fan of nonremovable batteries which makes a phone have a predetermined lifespan and is disposable.

Blame the man in the moon while you're at it.

Verizon takes their own sweet time updating by region.

The tech blogs didn't lie.

Verizon put you at the end of the line.

Every tech site I've read announced it FOUR DAYS AGO and many warned that it might be a test rollout before widespread distribution.

Your complaint is with Verizon no matter what.

I hope your phone isn't defective, I doubt it.

If you do really dump the phone, I know an elderly shut in that would highly appreciate it.

Meanwhile, I'm already looking for something else for her and have no doubt that she'll be OK before I'm done.

Best luck with your update!

I get the sentiment:
A few years back.I was in the exact same boat, bought a phone w/the promise of ICS,right there in black & white,on the mfgs site, for God & everyone to see.
Long story short,it never came,the reason being,from my best recollection,ICS & mfgs U/I didn't play nice w/the hardware.
I screwed up & took an incremental update,to be forever stuck/locked down @ GINGERBREAD 2.3.5
If I'd been patient,I coulda rooted/ROMMED & had the best of both worlds, including an enhanced version of the mfgs unique U/I & features, with a bump up to ICS.

Lesson learned:Do not take an update sight unseen, find out as much info as possible beforehand.

I had the G3 for a very brief time,loved it for the most part,lots to like w/the hardware/button layout & U/I.
Just couldn't get past the oversharpening w/the display.
Anyhoo, seems I was in the minority on that account & from what I've read, this & the thermal throttling can be overcome as well w/a couple mods.
If you're itching for LP,I'd at least give the aftermarket development side a shot before throwing in the towel...............

The tech blogs did lie. They specifically started that Verizon was rolling out the update to the G3. Once I asked Verizon, they stated that was not true. The Galaxy S5 is rolling out oddly enough, but no plans to update the G3 at this time.

Only a few have recently revised their info and said only two people got the update as part of some soak test. That was after they were inundated by comments from angry users who thought the official rollout was ongoing.
