OK Google - Working or not

"OK Google.." ...the nearest Chinese restaurants are NOT in Hong Kong.

90% of Google Now commands just go to standard search. Whoever stated it's better than S-Voice must have been joking as I can do much more from S-Voice. Try to open ES File Explorer from Now and it just does a Google search for it. Try opening WatchON Remote from Now it does a Google Search for it. In either case S-Voice correctly opened both apps as intended

"Okay, Google - find restaurants in Xilinhot..."

Think that'll work? I've had mixed happenings using Ok Google, or anything speech-to-text, or, vice versa... maybe you'll have better luck than I... LW

It did work the second time, when I manually typed "Find restaurants in Xilinhot.", and it did find me some local restaurants here.

It doesn't even work properly in the US and you expect better luck overseas?

It worked in London for me last September, in fact I was using Google Now a lot during the week I was there. Although I turned the notification cards thing off, because it kept on flashing up, 10 minutes from some place in Hong Kong, which was where I'd been prior to London. Even yesterday, it still had the idea I was in Hong Kong for some reason, when I asked it for the nearest Chinese restaurants.

I just said (and bare on mind I'm a Scotsman lol) "ok google launch Android Forums" and it did launch the AF app so sorry Nick but you're wrong there mate :thumbsupdroid:
And "enable silent mode" opened my phones volume settings
Yep.

To launch an app, say launch.

To open anything web related, say open.

To see the command syntax, say hello.

To be able to take a lift, don't be Scottish.

I became a fan of voice control since watching Star Trek. But Google Now still does a standard search more often when I wish it would just work. A shame since it is much faster than S-Voice but feels 1/3 as usable.

Just this morning I asked it to open Play Music. It got hung up at 'recognizing' then said 'can't reach Google'. Opened up S-Voice and it worked fine. Play Store also worked. But Google Now even today feels like a beta product.

Ironically asking it to enable silent mode ends with two results. Either it does a search for 'silent mode' or says 'this function is not currently supported.'

It refuses to launch apps from third parties. I can't get it to open ES File Explorer, Amazon Kindle, Aldiko or the like. Asking it to open Kindle, Amazon Kindle or Kindle Books makes it open the Amazon Shopping app.

It also can't launch most Samsung apps. The few times it does work it seems to prefer Google apps. Either the third party support is that limited (can't imagine why since the oldest voice control app can do that) or it has priority for Google apps. It has no problems opening Play Store, Play Books or the like, of course, that is when it can take the request.

Launch Play Music

Worked great.

Launch Tapatalk

Worked great.

Launch DigiHUD

Did that annoying help thing, changed it to launch digital HUD, and showed me DigiHUD in the Play Store. :D

Maybe you have an accent it doesn't like or something else with your app names.

Speaking of, make sure you have the setting checked to search your apps, it's kinda important.
