Maybe the end of useful mobile phones

Since you've asked, yes, I did.
Fair enough. Sorry if I came off as condescending.
Can say the same thing about any noname accessory. I think Samsung screwed up, but we shall see. Gear VR will be a content juggling joke with the S6. Great VR and 128gb S6 for about $1,200, or two year that makes about $700. Nope. That assumes the 128gb is even offered.
The Gear VR is just as gimmicky as all the other VR headsets (maybe more so), and it's not going to be actually taken seriously by anyone for a while. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it'll be a "content juggling joke".

Not enough storage space for VR content as well.

Gear VR rocks and is hardly a gimmick. Seems like you have not tried one. In your defense, I thought the same thing before trying.

I'm so sad about the loss of the removable battery. I would never consider a phone without it. It was just so convenient to be able pop in a new battery and go. I also found that batteries get old and start losing there charges faster. When that happened, it was so easy to get a new one. I really do hope that Samsung supports us loyal followers with a model that retains the removable battery and sd card slot. Let us choose.

Actually VR 3D content doesn't really take that much storage, only what's needed to hold the graphics and geometry data for mobile, 1-3GB probably, for things like games, and certainly less than HD movies. If you want to do full-on VR that is c0nvincingly realistic it still needs a high-end gaming PC or a decent console like a PS4, and not a mobile phone.

@artbytes: There are budget Samsungs with removable batteries, and the Note series, but for this year the S6 and its variants clearly won't. If it flops I expect this may be reviewed for the S7, if it sells well I'm sure it won't.

The real question here is whether the Note 5 will continue to offer these features? Right now it's probably not worth panicking about because we have no information at all, but either seems possible.

I say it's the beginning of a new age where micro SD and removable battery is a thing of the past
It wasn't the start of a new age when other manufacturers did the same exact thing a few years ago.

It was the end of their sales and the beginning of Samsung dominance.

They've since been coming back on board with both features, especially sd cards.

Nothing is permanent in the mobile industry. :)

Right. Everyone is real quick to tell you that you don't need an SD card now with a 128gb option, which I might agree with. Unfortunately, US carriers haven't ever carried even a 64gb version, and rarely even carry 32gb versions. The extra internal storage is worthless to me if Verizon won't offer it. Which takes you back to the need for sd card.

Well they'll have no choice about offering the 32GB version, because there isn't anything smaller.

Here in the UK pre-orders are not open yet, and I am struck by the fact that the descriptions on some of the retailer's sites say nothing about storage options. But at least Samsung's own UK site lists different capacities (information I couldn't find on their US site).

I guess there's nothing to do but wait until more information is released.

I have to admit when I heard about the s6, my reaction was oh another phone in their s series, a phone that will come preloaded with the same bloat ware that was on the galaxy s. Then I am reading something unrelated to the s6 and I saw this news clip of something about the s6 and a new direction, curious I clicked on the link and read about Samsung's 2015 flagship device. The missing SD card non removable battery caught me off guard. I recall when the s5 came out there was talk it was going to be metal. I went from the s3 to a nexus 4 then too a LG optimus L90, only had the nexus 4 for a month but the lack of an SD card was hard to adjust too, I think part of it was not understanding cloud services or transferring files to hard drives. I am more comfortable with out the sd card now, I think over time SD cards will phase out

I think removing SD, can improve customer experience, it means users not trying to use fake SDs from China they bought cheap on Ebay, Alibaba or Amazon. Decent phones seem to be coming with a minimum of 32GB internal storage now, such as the forthcoming S6. After all we do get a lot of posts on this forum, along with many other forums, along the lines of "HELP!, I bought a new 64GB SD card, I copied all my photos and MP3s to it, but they won't work!", and it often turns out it's a fake SD they bought.

I'm still waiting to see the first fake Samsung S6. :D removable battery, takes SD, and is dual-SIM.

- nice one! hahahahaha...

@joe71 the big problem with the Nexus 4's lack of SD was no SD plus very limited internal storage. The cloud isn't really a solution for many people, so without an SD you need storage options. At least Samsung are offering those, though if carriers decide that they won't stock the higher-capacity models that will be a problem for people who can't take the upfront hit of buying an unsubsidised handset (of course if some carriers don't there is a potential opportunity for their competitors - if any of them are reading this, something to consider? ;)).

Exactly! A tangible solution is what matters. Btw, I would have appreciated if Samsung also offered a variant with an SD card slot or a removable battery perhaps but I guess I just have to let go of old prejudices and embrace this changes.

I think this has more to do with wanting to clone Apple's device model. Catch is Samsung does not have the channel push clout that Apple has. Carriers must offer all size variants with Apple. Not likely carriers will do this for Samsung unless Samsung forces them to like Apple. The 128GB model will likely be $1,000. My Note 4 with 128gb card has 24GB more storage and about $200 less total cost than that. Not seeing how this is positive.

I also expect the device to not have very good battery life, but we shall see.
