Root s-on and want to flash roms? READ THIS

That is correct. You cannot use the fastboot boot command with hboot 1.57. You will need to manually install the boot image with fastboot flash.

As far as your rom not booting, make sure you are installing a rom that is compatible with your m7,that you are on the recomended firmware, and have used the recomended recovery to install it.

Thanks scotty85, I flashed a CM11 rom first and then clear cache in recovery to install M7 GPE rom bigxie_m7_GPe_KRT16S_odexed-signed.zip and RadioUpdate_4T.21.3218.21_10.16.1718.01L.zip. Then I reboot into fastboot mode directly to flash the extracted boot.img in the rom. Anything wrong in my steps as I got the reboot loop everytime trying to setup the language?

Sorry all these were under s-on though.

Hello! Fascinating stuff. Same caveat: wrong device (AT&T One M8), so wrong place, but seems to be the right issue.
HTCdev rooted. Will the process described at the beginning (using BOOT, not FLASH) allow me to flash the latest AT&T firmware? With TWRP installed, I tried to use fastboot to flash the rom, but it's denied without s-off.

with s on,youll only be able to install a singed, official firmware package,it must pass several security criteria, and youll have to lock the bootloader, then re-unlock to install a custom recovery, etc.

unfortunately. fastboot boot is not working on most newer hboots on newer devices. however, most newer devices are allowing recovery to install the boot image,so that rom flashing is simplified.

hope that answers your questions :)
