And Lollipop CM 12 is in Alpha...
In the "Just Because We Can" department, thanks to some amazing work by the XDA Dev Meticulus, I now have Carbon ROM (Android version 4.4.4) running on my old Samsung Galaxy Player. I haven't gotten it set up yet, but here are a couple of quick shots.
Lol. I'm not even sure what I'm going to do with it, but it actually runs pretty nicely. I'll play with it for a while and after I have it really set up (and have figured out a purpose) I'll post some more information and screen shots.
Here is the thread at XDA which will link to files and very detailed instructions:

Essentially, you use Odin to install a new kernel on your stock Gingerbread as well as giving you ClockworkMod recovery (which is worth it even if you want to stop there and stay with Gingerbread, since Clockwork lets you make Nandroid backups) and then you use Clockwork to flash Carbon and a Gapps package. The Dev has recompiled everything specifically for the Galaxy Player. Very smooth so far. Amazing that someone is still giving all this love to the Player-- it never got this much attention when it was new.
I know there is absolutely no activity in these Player forums now and I hadn't touched mine in over a year after giving it to my wife for a while. However, when I stumbled on this, I just couldn't resist. Carbon is a very full-featured ROM.
