Help Wifi Issues

Hi all,

I've managed to get my hands on the Max - besides my fingers getting a little sore from over stretching, loving it ;)

So far, only gripe is this popup message. Appears every time the phone is restarted, and sporadically every hour or so.

I can confirm that internet connection is still present as I'm generally in the middle of browsing or streaming.

Just thought it strange for it to appear when there's actually no issue.

Any ideas would be appreciated :)

that shows you are NOT connected to WIFI or you dont have an active internet connection at that time.

you say you are still connected, it could be that you still have a cellular connection that takes over when the wifi connection fails.

its wise to go to another wifi area and test to make sure its not the phones hardware.

if you can reproduce this error at other wifi locations, the phone should be replaced.

Definitely still connected - my monthly data limit through 3/4G is pretty low, so that connection is always turned off unless I need to access something, so I know my connection is genuine WiFi.

Have had it happen in other WiFi networks also, though it hasn't been as prominent today as yesterday.

No one else has had this issue?

what are your wifi settings? do you have it set to notify you when wifi networks are avail?

do you have power save wifi ticked? I forget the proper name of this but im close.. :)

there are other notification options. when i get to my phone ill check these but let me know what options you have ticked.

when i get a new device, i always disable all the nag notification screens...

Thanks for the reply. I've attached a screen shot of the options I have.

Recently upgraded from the One to the One Max, and never had an issue on the One.

I'm hoping it's just a software glitch (along with flickering brightness while scrolling and camera/shutter sound on silent) and that it'll be fixed in the first update :)

yeah i did the same migration path: one to one max. never saw this on the one and dont see it on the max.

i also dont have any screen fluctuation issues thus far, and i have been taking plenty of images and videos for whatsapp and instagram, etc.

i think this depends on ones local environment and how ones phone is set up. i cycle through a few wifi spots daily and do not see this at all.

i guess disabling any options that notify you of any avail networks and when you disconnect from any networks to see if this stops the pop up. disable battery saver on wifi option also.

i am on sprint. also if would help keep confusion down if you update your device in your avatar there... ;)

Thanks for that.

Screen fluctuation only occurs on the lowest brightness setting, with predominantly white backgrounds. I don't notice it any other time.

I'll update my avatar next time I'm on the computer ;) haha.

Admittedly the error hasn't appeared today, so I'm hoping there were just some prelim techno gremlins that have now left ;)

I am having similar issues, as well as having to turn wifi off then back on to get my connection to work. I am going to have the device tested at a Sprint service center as soon as I get some down time and I would suggest the same for you, they may find nothing or you may walk out with a new One Max.

On edit: In case you haven't seen it this lists what I am experiencing.

So here's my problem.

I received a refurbished HTC One Max through Sprint's TEP program, and it worked fine for the two weeks I've had it... until yesterday.

I put the phone in airplane mode at my doctor's office, but since they have public wifi and I use the phone with a LG G Watch, I turned wifi and bluetooth back on. After finishing with the doctor, I turned airplane mode back off.

When I got home, the phone refused to connect to the home wifi network, showing it "Not in range".

So I went through every diagnostic and fix I could find, short of a hard reset. Yes, even the partition wipe.

No help. On reboot or return from airplane mode, the phone recognizes all of the networks around me, connects to my home network, then immediately loses all of the 2.4GHz networks. A 5GHz network nearby shows up fine.

Connection status runs the following sequence: CONNECTED -> DISABLED -> SAVED -> Not in range

I can't afford to replace this phone AGAIN (I can barely afford the $150 deductible on this one) and I sure as hell can't afford a new router (which wouldn't solve the problem anyway).

Anyone else have this problem? More importantly, does anyone have a solution?

The first image is from my One Max, the second from my half dead EVO 4G LTE, taken seconds apart from the same spot on my desk, about 2.5 feet from the router.

Try resetting your home router if that's where it's happening.

I assume that it forgot the doc's wifi after the reset but couldn't hurt to check.

I even tried changing routers.

And it's not just mine. It's the entire 2.4GHz band. It's not seeing ANYTHING there, though it sees 5GHz networks just fine.

I can't think of a reason that it would connect when powering up or coming off of airplane mode, but then the entire band stops working.

Settings, wifi, menu, advanced - wifi frequency band - what does it have?

Auto. Tried setting it to 2.4GHz only with no results other than the 5GHz network stopped showing up.

Just got off the phone with a Sprint tech. They're calling it a hardware problem and sending me a new phone.

He was hard to understand, though. Very heavy Spanish accent.

Sprint's TEP is protection for you if you drop your phone or run it over with a tractor or something. It shouldn't be invoked for a hardware fault as this obviously is. I'd, as the man with the parrot said, complain until you're blue in the mouth. ;)

Seriously, sometimes you have to call a few times until you connect with the right person. Took me 6 tries with AT&T once and that was just to buy something from them!

No problem venting when you get hosed, we all do it.

I guess I misunderstood and it was a sure free replacement.

Dang, it oughta be!

This phone is a TEP replacement, and carries a $150 deductible. Hopefully, the replacement for this one won't, because if it does, you can rest assured that I will raise holy hell, not only with Sprint but with Asurion (the company that handles TEP not only for Sprint, but for quite a few others).

At least it's not rebooting itself at least once a day, which is what prompted the first replacement (whcih TEP apparently does cover under "damage from normal handling" <the coverage of which, in itself, surprised me>).
