Hi, only just signed up to this site but had a browse beforehand and couldn't find anything which answered the issue I have. Apologies if this has been brought up in another thread.

I've upgraded to Lollipop on my galaxy s4. Now whenever I plug anything into the headphone jack, I get a pop-up message saying "Unfortunately, recommended apps has stopped working."

Is there anything in particular that may be causing this and a way of stopping this from happening?

Thanks in advance.

After a system upgrade it is generally advisable to do a factory reset. THis is likely to resolve the issue although you have the hassle of creating a full back up to restore after the reset. Quite often clearing the cache on the device is all that is needed so I would try that first as it retains your data.

1. Switch off Galaxy S4.

2. Long press altogether VOLUME UP + HOME button + POWER button at once.

3. When S4 vibrates, let go POWER button but continue to long press the VOLUME UP + HOME buttons.

4. Release all when you see boot screen and little blue writing shows up at the top of the device.

5. Use VOLUME UP/DOWN key to select wipe cache partition and use POWER button to confirm.

6. After finishing the process you will also have the exact same menu.

7. Use POWER button to choose reboot device from the list.

8. The phone will then restart after the cache is wiped.

Thanks for the reply Pugs. I've not cleared the cache on the device but when I saw you suggested doing that I just found the app in question through settings>application manager>all. I cleared the cache and the data for recommended apps and haven't had the problem since. If it keeps happening through other apps I guess I'll try a full cache clear. Maybe you could try that first too Bullitt?

That was strange. That option to turn recommended apps off said "Off" on the left hand side, but I got the error today. I then went back into the options, and it was still "Off" but, on closer inspection, the switch on the right hand side was set to "On". I cycled the switch a couple of times and now it's Off-Off.

Strange little bug.

There is a way to switch it off guys. I searched and found it thankfully because I was having the same problem. Go to your Settings, Go to the "DEVICE" tab and you will see "NOTIFICATION PANEL" and there you will see a switch to turn "RECOMMENDED APPS" on or off.

The cache clear worked for me temporarily but now the problem is back. I've tried to find this but the said application isn't listed under 'Application notifications' when I go to it. Am I looking in the right place?

Settings>MY DEVICE>Sounds and notifications>Application notifications

It only seems to list here the apps that are 'visible' on the main apps screen, omitting all the 'hidden' apps such as 'recommended apps'.

This is such a pain, it's so annoying having a phone filled with useless apps that I don't ever use but can't delete.

Hi,

I had the same problem however I soon discovered a step was missing from the instruction post (no offence). Go to Settings > My Device (tab) > Display > Notification Panel (second option down) > Recommended Apps.

I found that mine was in the "On" position but said that it was off.

I hope this helps!

Thanks, mine was the same, in that it appeared in the on position but said off. Toggling the button to off, on properly then off properly appears to have solved it!

That message appeared just ones and force closes Settings. But, when I tried again, it did allow me to switch on the "Recommended apps"

I've tried to unplug my headphones and put them back again and no error message appeared! :)

Still recommended apps no longer appear in the notification panel
