Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Disable 4G Throttle - Optimus F3

I see what you mean, but it's not likely with regard to VM. They mention in the fine print that throttling will occur after 2.5GB of high speed data on the Sprint network. If they didn't mention that anywhere, then yeah, it would be ripe as you say. As it is mentioned in the fine print, something I'm sure their legal reps told them, then there's no case here.

It's not VM's fault that people don't read the fine print or Terms of Service agreements. They're there for a few reasons (legal and otherwise). That is the responsibility of the customer.

As we sometimes say in the Open Source community, RTFM if you don't want to get screwed! ;)

There is a case to be made that the throttling is so extensive that the data if effectively capped. Again, the advertising just needs to be misleading in order to have a case...

If you say so.

For the price that I pay ($35 for 300 min talk time), 2.5 GB of 3G/4G data a month is still a good value. I've never used more than 500 MB in a month since I began VM service in 2011. Some prepaid carriers throttle your usage for the price I pay at 500 MB, some with even lower limits than that!

For those of you complaining that you use up your 2.5 GB so fast, you'd better check which apps you have in the background eating all that bandwidth. Also, I've done a little tethering with VM before (using my older Optimus V), but I don't find it useful. Even with the graphics off when browsing on a laptop, I still use more bandwidth than I would use if I browsed on my phone using mobile sites and apps with graphics on. It's not fun or useful browsing on a PC with the graphics off. OK in an emergency, I suppose.

I live in the country where we have no other internet options. Even the phone lines are crap and cut out all the time. Country country.. like my neighbors are cows and corn stalks. So we use this as a primary internet source. At first the 2.5gb is fast.. I mean real fast.. 8.5mbps on bandwidthplace.com. Then the cap hits at 1mbps and from there it caps further to 30k... I am serious. I have tested it. We don't download and mainly use it for facebook or email, ebay or shopping.. Just normal everyday internet use. Now a year ago we had sprint and wow we were downloading 200gb a month, no caps.. LOL and we were kicked off our plan and aloud to keep our phones.. But we are now banned from Sprint.. LOL

Just to clear things up. You still get unlimited data even if you hit the 2.5gb mark it's just slowed down. You can still use data but at 2G speeds. You still get 3G but the speed is reduced and it's still unlimited. They never said unlimited speed just unlimited data

At 128kbps is just about useless at that speed even navigation apps are worthless... That said I have never even got close to the cap, but 128kbps is a joke

Hello All,
Looking for a little help with this issue--

I've tried the method described above but it did not make any difference, it's still counting up data towards the cap.

Basically, I have two identical Optimus F3's. Both rooted. Both have updates blocked. Both have the original LG720ZV5 that came on the phone. Both have the same PRL 33030.

Yet one has no throttle on 4G and the other does.

My original phone remains UN-THROTTLED and has never had the above method implemented.

I don't want to get into an argument about where the throttling takes place.
All, I can say for certain is that one of my Optimus F3's has no 4G throttle.
I think it's because I permanently blocked the Update from happening but I can't be 100% certain.

Any thoughts on what else to try on the 2nd phone?
Thanks,
Rob

i blocked the updates on my LG Volt for boost . no more ota surprise ty very much . rooted , fixed permissions modded an apk for EVERY app i can . google wont work (nothing will) unless you mod them ALL (the only way they work for me) and dont reboot after most except the ones that did it automatically . ooh and my beloved Adobe Flash . the LG Volt has the sprint 'spark' n after 'raping' it my dl speeds stayed between 9 - 15 mbps n ul at 7 - 15 . now that you mentioned that , im anxiously waiting for my data limit to hit .

In the commercials, if you read the fine print on the bottom of the TV screen, then you will see they do in fact throttle at 2.5GB.

I think they should do more with there higher rate plans im actually looking at swiching to t mobile because they do in fact offer unlimited data its 80 dollars a month id rather pay double and some change for truly unlimited internet then halfassed unlimited internet I mean is it to much to ask for 1mb/s so you can at least buffer a crappy video half the phones virgin offers are capped out with the data speed they offer anyway why not give a measly 874kb/s to the people who pay for there phone service or at least offer an uncapped data plan like t mobile

It's also a branding issue. Sprint appears to be pushing more of its prepaid resources onto boost and Sprint prepaid these days. VM is becoming more of a lower tiered service. As it is I'm still satisfied with the service, but if my needs change (as in needing more high speed data outside of wifi), then I will go somewhere else.

I switch to T-Mobile for a reason, I pay $25 for amazing service. I only get 4G and not LTE (as my phone doesn't have the HW for LTE) and it is way faster than even virgins LTE
