"Two day", not "today" in title.
Got the edge a few days back, restored all backups from S5 and took on a business trip. Some initial impressions and thoughts.
Bloat: still heavy (Samsung and AT&T) but easily disabled with a few items being fully uninstalled. Tip: – when disabling, ram memory usage is definitely reduced, but storage remains. However uninstalling updates on disabled apps does help in reducing storage used. If you do uninstall updates on apps that you have disabled, you should go to Google Play and uncheck these apps from the auto update option.
Speed under heavy load: I frequently have to review and modify fairly massive PowerPoint and Excel files on the road. My S5 labored in these situations with slow refreshing of slides. The S6 edge flies through this process. Tip: – don't use the included new Hancom Office 2014 app. I downloaded Polaris Office and it works faster and better, especially for PowerPoint and Excel files.
The new curved edge: cute, functionality fairly limited and personally I had to force myself to use it.(Apologies to KupKrazy – different strokes). Also touch response on the curved edges sometimes not as sensitive. Specially on the keyboard when typing items that fall along the curved edges. You have to press a little harder or slightly more precisely for it to register. Like the five quick contacts capability, especially on the road, but found the rest of the features gimmicky. Once the novelty of the curve wears off it seems to contribute only to looks. Hopefully, third-party apps might add some muscle to this feature.
Macrodroid: – works good for the most part, though I had to retype most of my macros ported over from the S5. Some issues with "screen off/on" triggers and actions.
Replaced Touchwiz with Nova, which works great with all the newer functions.
Highly recommend the clear Ringke case. Tried both the Ringke and Spigen clear cases and the Ringke won, especially with the sealable headphone and USB jacks.
Battery usage: – seems a little heavier than the S5, however the available "Power saving mode" really makes a difference in battery usage and is barely noticeable in regular use. I accidentally turned it on and apart from a slightly dimmer screen I barely noticed the CPU throttling. Colors etc. are still vibrant and throttled performance still leaves the S5 in the dust.
Radio: – seems slightly better than the S5, but that could be wishful thinking.
Connections (email, exchange) went smooth as silk. I have four separate email providers plus Microsoft exchange. All connected seamlessly through the built-in email app.
