Any damage to your Nexus 6 (water, drops, screen scratches, etc.)

In this thread, I'd like members to post damages to their N6. Weather it be on the back, on the glass, water, droppage, etc.

From previous experiences with Gorilla glass 2 and 3, I've found the glass to be VERY prone to scratches from even very light use. I can't find a case or screen protector anywhere in retail at the moment locally, and this phone is almost 2 weeks old! I still have my original screen protector out of the box on it. Getting ready to take it off and tear up the screen the way I always do. Yes, I know there's shit on Amazon.....

Fine grain things like sand in your pockets will still scratch gorilla glass, but I haven't used a screen protector for the past few years and am scratch free.

It would annoy the heck out of my keeping the original screen protector on it for that long! :eek:

Yeah, I wanna rip the damn thing off so bad! But I work in an oil & gas shop and am constantly around grease, metal shavings and whatnot. I scratched my S3 and N5 in the first couple of days without a screen protector.

I'm ultra paranoid about damage on my phones. I will not use them until I have both a case and screen protector.

I don't care how strong or scratch resistant GG3 is, I'm using a screen protector.

My N5 is spotless. Looks like it just came out of the box after a year of use, and I'm a butcher. My phone is in the cold all day long. A zip lock keeps it blood and meat free.

Lots of phones, never used a screen protector. Not a single scratch or blemish. All ended up like new. Gorilla Glass has served me well.

I've never used a screen protector either, but I'm very careful with my phones. Even the all-glass N4 only shows some barely perceptible abrasions on the back. In a harsh environment, I could see where they'd be necessary.

This morning after going to work I noticed this huge scratch on my screen. There was nothing else in my pocket but the phone (there's no space left anyway, it's freaking huge). Safe to say I'm far from satisfied with GorillaGlass.

I'm new to Android as I've decided to give it a try with Googles new flagship after years of owning an iPhone. My iPhone had smaller scratches but nothing close to this scratch. And my iPhone wasn't treated as careful as my new two week old Nexus 6.

Very disappointing!

GG does not protect from everything. fine sand and similar particles WILL scratch the glass, whereas keys and certain materials will not.

if you plan to throw your device in a pocket, backpack, you are advised to get a screen protector. GG does not protect against everything.

Tempered glass protectors are great - the problem is finding one that is compatible with the Nexus 6 (without causing issues with edges/corners not sticking well).

I've used tempered glass protectors with my Nexus 5, and it has served me well. With the Nexus 6, I've gone thru' 4 different ones, and all had issues with the edges not sticking. There is one by Jellybean that I'm using at the moment, which seems to be the best of the lot - it has one corner that doesn't stick (about 1mm x 1mm), but I'll live with it for now.

I use an Orzly tempered glass protector. It's narrow enough that it covered just the viewable portion of the screen, leaving a bit of the edges of the face exposed. Because it's so narrow, it doesn't have a problem with the edges lifting due to the curved face.

Hi, I just bought a Nexus 6 International (XT-1100) version and tested it into water sometimes, this last time I realized vidoes on youtube pause instantly after about 1 sec after playing it, and I wasn't able to play any sound in it. Right now I have it in rice and waiting for results.

Dropped my Nexus 6 on concrete over the weekend. No damage. The Spigen case I had on at the time protected it nicely. Landed right on the "air-cushion" bumper on the top left corner. I watched in horror in what seemed to be slow motion.

Depends on which side of the lens it is. If it on the user facing side, duh

If it is on the phone facing side, you may have some luck turning the phone off and putting it in a jar of uncooked rice for a day or so.

How did you water get on it anyway? Did you drop it in water? Is the phone working ok?

I dropped the phone on the water. After I took it out it was fine. Several minutes later, the lens of both camera was covered with water. Then at midnight, the screen wasn't working. I used a hair dryer to make it work. Then it worked. But the lens are not getting cleaned. Its cleans but few minutes later the water comes back on the lens. Now the front lens are clean. But the back one is still not getting clean.

My bottom speaker grill came off luckily I found it in my jeans pocket a day later. I reattached it and monitor it closely now.

A hair dryer isn't going to do it. As a matter of fact that could cause more harm by blowing water across the circuit board. The water you see is water that's still trapped inside the phone. Using the phone with water in it could harm your phone further so my advice is to turn it off NOW!. Then get a bag of uncooked rice. Place the phone in the bag and tie it closed. Then let it sit for a MINIMUM of 24 hours, but you'd be better off letting it go for a full 72 hours (three days) to guarantee the moisture in the phone is equalized with the ambient humidity. If you still have a water problem behind the lenses, it will require professional service.

The worst thing you can do right now is to continue using it with water inside.

The EZGuards glass protector is the same way and probably cheaper. I paid $5.99 for it on ebay.

I refuse to use my phone without a SP and case. I paid a lot of money and want to keep it like new.

Nice, I'll check that out when/if I need to replace the Orzly.
