Moto 360 Owner Observations. New/potential users check here

you set the watch/phone combo to respond with what you setup in the app. you associate certain programs to activate with certain voice commands.

although i have not ever used a moto x, i would imagine the same experience will be the same (or better) on the nex 6.

curious,

have you seen or read something that makes you think the nex 6 will not do these features?

Yeah, the X is fantastic. Moto put some really nice touches in there. That's one of them, it's always listening. I use it mostly in the car for calling and navigating.

My research on the Nexus lead me to believe that's not feature and the screen has to be on for voice commands. Then I wondered if I could flick my wrist and use my watch to then kick the sleeping phone into gear.

If that won't work it's a feature I would really, really miss.

Hi thanks for the reply i want transfer data like heartrate reading
To do that, you'll need a phone app with a smartwatch companion (I use Endomondo) that can use the heart rate sensor and log that data with the workout. In my experience, the readings are flaky at best, and I invested in a Polar H7 HRM to gather heart rate during exercise instead. It's an electric detector, and works much better and provides more reliable data than any optical sensor will do.

As far as I know, the watch itself doesn't log heart rate in any fashion which you can export the data. By default, Google Fit uses the sensor to detect when you're active and logs time active accordingly. It doesn't (Google Fit) allow you to extrapolate HR data, however. Nor am I aware of any app that allows you to log heart rate over time. Any such app that does so would have the watch battery plummet in a few hours.

Thinking about one of these... or something similar anyway. I'm a sim swapper and have a couple of phones on the go... how easy is it to either pair to 2 devices, or in pair from one and connect to the other?

It would be a pain in the ass. The watch has to be hard-reset before it will pair with another phone. So you'd have to reset it and let it redownload your watch apps each time you swap phones. You'll probably also need to "forget" the watch from the phone you're switching away from, so each time you'll need to set up the quick voice commands again as well.

Thanks for that.... Looks like I might be better off waiting for the next generation....

It's not really a watch thing, but a Bluetooth thing. I know they make Bluetooth peripherals like mice and keyboards that can pair with multiple hosts, but they are essentially discrete radio channels that make each appear as a different device. If a smartwatch were to do that, it would be my guess that it wouldn't share data across the phones. That isn't probably what you're hoping to do. :(

In the end I picked up an sbh52 headset.... Which will do most of what I wanted the watch to do.... But slightly differently.

It will pair with both devices... And I can pick which one sends it notifications and I can use it to unlock the device..... And pairing it with a new device only takes less than a minute..

Oh and it tells the time as well...

yes its connected via BT low energy spec.

you can connect the phone to your stereo via bt and have the watch connected at the same time.

ive a nexus 6 and a moto 360. i usually stream audio from the nexus 6 to the car via bt. all the while the watch is connected and i get updates on the watch as emails come in, trivia crack notifications, traffic updates on my drive.
