How to stop the ridiculous notifications in 5.0.1?

Hi Guys & Girls,

I have searched everywhere but cant find an answer to my problem so thought Id ask the question here.
I have recently upgraded my S4 i9505 to lollipop 5.0.1 but now I have a notification appear on my lock screen every time the phone breaths. Before the upgrade if I had a message in handcent or viber etc. I just got an icon appear at the top of the lock screen but now I get no icon , just a whacking great notification. I only get the old style icon once I swipe the lock screen and go to my home screen.
I want to stop all these notifications and just go back to the plain old little icon at the top.
Any ideas?
I have rooted the phone in anticipation but am getting so fed up with the stupid battery is fully charged notification that if I cant rid myself of them im gonna go back to an IPhone. Yes im that fed up with it.

Go to setting> my device>Sound and Notifications>notifications on Lock screen... and check the box that says Do not show. See if that fixes it.

Try the other option. I don't recall whats it called. there is none, all and a 3rd choice. I agree about this update. There are several things I HATE!!!!

The third one is to hide sensitive content. This stops the screen showing the contents of my messages to all and sundry but doesn't stop the pop up appearing.
If there's a way to go back to the previous OS im going for it as I refuse to be woken up in the middle of the night by an alarm telling me my battery is fully charged and advising me to unplug my charger.
Whoever designed this update must think Im a bloody nocturnal idiot.
