This topic as a brief log for flashing my phone, a ebay modified LG G2.

You may find in this topic are:
  • How to find exactly model when you brought from Ebay.
  • Unbrick a very hard brick phone
  • restore to Original ROM

Thanks for @iowabowtech, a great step by step helper!

Below is my first post.
==============
I might likely have same problem as:
http://androidforums.com/threads/865650/
http://androidforums.com/threads/921458/
But I tried to follow the thread, I always stuck in half way.
  • I can't get software updated checking with Update Center: phone not registered
  • I can't install Twrp: the Twrp Manager (Root) wouldn't restart after it show me successfully done. after i manually restart to recovery, it stuck in: fastboot mode started //udc_start() //reset portcharge
  • I tried use Flashify + download Recovery img, but same issue, after reboot, stuck to: fastboot mode started //udc_start() //reset portcharge
  • I am sure I installed the official USB driver very good from here (http://www.lg.com/uk/support-mobile/lg-D802), when phone's on, connect to computer is no problem, but when I turn off and Volume Up + usb plugin, download mode shows, and the software update never start but 0%
  • I tried use LG suite, connect to my LG G2, update software, no luck, says no update found, check phone status.
Please help me this, as I just simply want to have Twrp, and back up whole system before I start to flash a 3rd party rom, like Pacman Rom.

Thank you.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do here. It sounds like on one hand you're trying to update the entire device, and at the same time, you're trying to either install twrp manually or you already have a version of twrp installed and are simply trying to update it.

I would need a little more info to follow your situation. Like what firmware version your phone is running now, currently rooted, custom rom and if so which one, which version of twrp you have now if any, which model phone you have, anything else you can help us to help you.

It sounds like you have normal boot with the device correct? And currently you only run into issues getting fastboot mode when taking certain actions?

I would like to (1) get Twrp installed, (2) backup current system, and (3) install a custom rom.

Thanks for help me this, this phone is I brought from ebay, I would like to install a custom rom.

Not sure where is the firmware version, but hope the following is what you need.

android version: 4.2.2
kernel version: 3.4.0
Build number: JDQ39B
Software version: D80210e
Model number: LG-D802

Yes, device rooted with SuperSu installed.

Installed stock rom, not sure if it had custom recovery install or not, as I try to reboot to recovery, it stuck in: fastboot mode started //udc_start() //reset portcharge black window. As I try to install Twrp with Twrp Manager (Root) , stuck in the same place after reboot to recovery.

Not sure if it's "normal boot", I am a newbie, could you let me know how to check it?

Thank you for your help!

Ok so you're on 4.2.2 so to install twrp, you can use Autorec for KitKat:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496

Since this is a used D802, I must warn you that there are many sold online which have an alternate model's motherboard but have a d802 rom and d802 marked on the rear cover. The fact you get fastboot mode when trying to enter recovery is a red flag to me that you COULD be in that situation. However, the same could be said if you previously tried to flash twrp with Flashify or a similar app.

So if you want to be on the extreme safe side, remove your rear cover and take a pic of the internals so we can verify model. If you want to roll the dice, then you can use the Autorec app above as mentioned and select the model d802 for your twrp recovery when prompted. As long as you have a genuine d802 with a matching motherboard, that should work well for you.

Thanks for this advice! as this phone brought from ebay, I think I must take your advice to make sure this is right model in very first place, as I open the back cover, wtf, this is a D801 model!

That means I couldn't use this phone for 3g and 4g in UK?
Surely, that's why I couldn't get the Twrp for d802 installed... I would like to get this phone refund.

Thanks @iowabowtech you are a very professorial adviser and great step by step helper! Thanks million!

If they marked it correctly for the current configuration, then it's a d801. It's still a slight dice roll without removing the motherboard and looking at the stamp on it. But otherwise, you should be able to use autorec and select d801 as your model to get twrp. Then flash a rom of your choice which is either a d801 specific rom or one that applies to all g2's such as one of the Cloudy roms etc.

Thanks helping me....

I had check this page:

AutoRec - KitKat Recovery Installer | LG G2 | XDA Forums
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715496

download d801 autorec, installed and applied fixing.

reboot to recovery...

fastboot mode coming... connect phone to Windows,

test "fastboot reboot" is working..

download twrp for d801, and "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", which shows me done.

reboot phone won't goes to the Android user interface, only fastboot mode.

"adb devices" show none on devices list
"fastboot devices" shows "? fastboot"

I stuck here, and don't know how to goes to the TWRP?

Unfortunately, that likely means that the motherboard is not matching the d801 markings on the lower half of the phone. So this was a fail. I think I already know the answer to this but...have you tried accessing download mode? To do so from a fastboot screen, unplug and long press power for NO LESS than 15 seconds to power down phone entirely, then once off, press and hold volume up while at the same time plugging phone into PC.

after I pluggin phone into PC with volume up pressed

the download mode appeared a second and then goes to fastboot mode:

======
fastboot mode started
udc_start()
---reset---
---partcharge---
fastboot: processing commands
======

Now phone connected with Windows....

Could you let me know how to go to TWRP in this situation? Thanks...

You can't go to TWRP in this situation because the D801 TWRP that autorec flashed is not the right one for your motherboard. So now you need to use fastboot mode to fastboot flash the correct partitions back to the phone. In these situations, I advise flashing aboot, boot, dbi, laf, rpm, sbl1, and tz. This will ensure a working download mode, then you can restore the phone via kdz/tot. There are other ways to go about it theoretically, but that way is thorough and will always work.

HOWEVER, you need to know which phone model's firmware to use in order to do that. So your options are to guess what is the most likely motherboard currently installed (d800 I'd guess) or to know for sure, you must disassemble phone and look at the marking on the underside of the motherboard.

I think Id better make sure the real model by checking the motherboard. As this is the first time I did this, could you point me when can I find the motherboard marking in this video?
(pause at right place and click share to give me the link, do check the start from check box under to let me know the point i may find out the marker please. )

Thanks very much, I am doing disassemble now.

Im goes to this point, I found D800/D801/D803/D800T, on the left side stripe, D800 on the right. as I tried D801 but failed, if that's means this is D800?

I am really afraid if I goes further, I might broken the phone. if this can tell the model that's great.

Waiting for your advice. thanks.

No that's what we needed to know but...the D801 TWRP flash failed which is strange. Though perhaps in their effort to change the phone into a D802, they may have done something to impede autorec from working entirely.

So I would fastboot flash the previous mentioned partitions for the D801. Then restore via kdz/tot. And then retry root and recovery once you are stable again.

fastboot flash aboot D:\Desktop\FDM\aboot.img
fastboot flash boot D:\Desktop\FDM\boot.img
fastboot flash dbi D:\Desktop\FDM\dbi.img
fastboot flash laf D:\Desktop\FDM\laf.img
fastboot flash rpm D:\Desktop\FDM\rpm.img
fastboot flash sbl1 D:\Desktop\FDM\sbl1.img
fastboot flash tz D:\Desktop\FDM\tz.img

now this phone is bricked. :(

No LG logo, no any thing but totally black.

connect to Windows, Device Manager shows: other devices/QHSUSB_BULK

Help please....

Did you check to make sure the file sizes you downloaded? The instructions for bulk mode can loosely be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142

However, when you actually get to the point of flashing partitions, you want to flash the same 7 you flashed already instead of the ones they mention there. If the sizes were correct on those however, you may be in a bad situation because that should have worked the first time..from fastboot mode. You should not have gone into bulk mode. Something seems strange with this device.

Here's the newest partitions I'm aware of for the d801 that are available for download:
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2/D801BK/Stock_Firmware/20a_partitions

edit: ok so i see those are the ones you used. Check your file sizes vs the listed file size to make sure they match. You must left click on each of those when downloading. If you happened to right click and "save as", it will instead save the URL link and that would cause major issues of course when flashing to the phone.

Like the OP, you'll want to verify your internal stampings to start with.
