Root CM12.1 Discussion Thread

Has anybody noticed that Lollipop has annoying SD card restrictions similar to KitKat? I was trying to edit the tags on my music on the SD card and it kept failing. Anyway I made a fix for it. If anyone else wants this I'll put it in a flashable zip. Like the KitKat SD fix apps it will allow you to write to your SD card with the same relative ease as with jellybean and below.

Download an XML editor. Use root explorer to navigate to the system folder then etc then permissions. Open platform.XML and navigate to <permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE">
Insert a new element under this. Edit it and replace element with the word group. Then add a custom attribute with the name being gid And the value being media_rw. The new string will look like this.
<group gid="media_rw"/>
I've included a screenshot image of during the edit and what it should look like when finished. If you have system rw then save. If not just save as to your internal phone storage. Reboot to twrp. Mount storage. Open advanced then file manager. Navigate to where you saved the newly edited platform.XML. move and replace the old platform.XML under /system/etc/permissions and Viola. You now have 3rd party app access to save files to SD card that will remain. Enjoy. :) I used Axel XML editor.
I think this also enables r/w...at least on Root Explorer it mounts r/w on system folder...please confirm if anyone else is able to do so
*edit*...nevermind it does seem mount r/w in Root Explorer, but changes won't stick after reboot...

I've actually used the kitkat SD fix apps on lollipop and it has worked and no errors, but for those who don't have r/w a flashable zip would be great

Can anyone tell me why I can't screenshot? It works fine on stock but on any version of cm12.1 it says unable to capture screenshot due to limited storage, I've tried different SD cards and I still can't screen capture. Everything else works fine.
You probably got your storage a bit messed up. You probably need to format data.

i did the clean install...and flashed all the zips...even the netflix ...i don't use netflix...but, i flashed it to see if it would help with the annoying but not crippling youtube error that requires me to "touch screen to retry"...
and that was a negative...did'nt think it'd help...but, it did'nt loop anything ..
and
while surfing the screen stutters while dragging the page up and down...no big ...still loads junk fast..

and ...i am sad to say...i too am suffering from the camera issue...tried it with cm camera and google camera and both choke when stopping a recording...same issue with playback...and a lack of a real thumbnail for the file...just a blank tile with the "play" arrow in the middle that leads to denial of viewing pleasure.... :(

if you don't want to wait for the zip to reobtain rw access to your SD through 3rd party apps. Its actually very simple. Just gotta add 3 words to the platform.XML file under /system/etc/permissions. Someone quoted me as I posted it the other day if you scroll up a bit.
