Help Battery Drain

Anyone seeing an increase in battery drain on the turbo? When I first got this phone, it would use 50% battery in 16 hours. Now using 70-80% every day in the same time. I have been wireless charging vs turbo charging. As the battery information is not very good, not sure if I should install an app that could tell me if I have an app causing the issue or if its a HW problem.

I don't have a Droid Turbo, but I do have a Droid Maxx, and I definitely have seen higher drain in the last few weeks. The one app that never used to appear in my list in settings / battery usage but now always does is Google Play Services. I suspect that an update to that has led to an increase in battery drain.

Wiping cache partition did not help this problem for me.

However, it's also possible/probable that my phone's 21 month old battery has deteriorated to the point where it no longer holds as much of a charge as when I first bought it. Still, again, I also rarely saw Google Play Services consume as much power in the past as it has in the last few weeks.

The Maxx and Turbo have very similar (though not identical) software builds, so that and the age of my battery may mean that my experience is irrelevant to yours. However, perhaps it is...

Safe mode still used 30% battery in 7 hours. As I have uninstalled several apps I continue to see the same drain now. Not sure what is causing as the phone does get hot at times. I am clearing cache every few days and starting to power cycle the phone every day. Yesterday I was down to 30% remaining in 11 hours. Not good for a phone that is 3 months old!

Settings / battery. Is Google Play Services one of the top 4, along with screen, Android OS, and Android System?

If yes, I am seeing the same thing. I'm hoping that a future update to Google Play Services will fix this. Soon, very soon. (Unfortunately, Google Play Services is updated by Google when they update it, even if you have apps set not to autoupdate in the Play Store app.)

Just curious - does restarting the phone daily help?
Nope. Restarted it last night after clearing the cache and there's no difference. My phone feels faster form the cache wipe but the Google Play Services is still having a field day. Currently sitting at 28%. My screen is at 14%. Seems like one of those weird Android things that just have to work themselves out. I'll just have to deal with the drain until then.

EDIT:

This guy here says he had to wipe his phone to fix it... I'm trying to turn location services off to see if it has something to do with Google Now.

I hope that works for you. I tried that a couple of weeks ago (and disabled Google Now, even though I really like the service) and it didn't make too much of a difference for me. (I have a Droid Maxx and not a Turbo, but the builds are pretty similar.)

It didn't make any difference. I really don't want to wipe the phone though...

Power cycling the phone daily is not helping. Today on wifi, in 13.5 hours, I am down to 23% remaining! I will most likely wipe the phone after the android update to 5.1. I had an LGG2 prior to this phone and the battery did not start to show signs of drain issues until it was 18 months old and I charged it wirelessly every day. The capacity of the battery in the Droid Turbo is bigger and my phone is only three months old. Not happy.

Do you have the new Google Photos app installed? Are things better if you go into settings / Google, tap your account, and turn off Google photos and Google photos backup? (Just temporarily...)

I tried completely uninstalling the Photos app and didn't see any difference. This didn't start with that app either, at least as far as I can tell. I started a few days after that. The really strange thing is that this morning I woke up and Google Play Services usage was at 4%. I thought whatever BS Google Play Services was doing was resolved. Well... It's been a couple hours since I unplugged my phone and now it's at 16% and increasing. This is the kind of crap that made me switch to an iPhone years ago. I shouldn't have to manage this stuff. It's the phone's job.

I'm running on a Turbo 64GB and Google Services is at 7%. The latest updates are installed on everything. I do a weekly Wipe Cache Partition. I only use GPS for navigation and not the various buying apps.

... Thom

I leave GPS on battery saving mode and I always have. I did a cache wipe a couple of days ago. This is all still happening. It isn't anything I've done since my use of the phone hasn't changed from before this was happening until now.

I mean it might not be a bad idea to reformat. I occasionally do it when my device starts acting up a few days in a row.

It just takes so long to get all the apps installed and log into all of them... I'm complaining I know, but these problems are the reason I left Android in the first place. I came back thinking these sorts of stability issues were resolved with KitKat. At least most of the games on my phone back up to Google's cloud now.

My only concern with reformatting is that if this is an issue on the Google server side of things. I saw a couple of people who stated that reformatting didn't fix the issue. If I take all the time to format the phone and it doesn't fix it...

Side note: Also, safe mode didn't fix anything so I don't think it's an app.

I'm not doing a factory reset on my phone, either. I just periodically plug in on the bad days. I'm saving a factory reset for when (if?) my phone gets lollipop (again, I have a Droid Maxx, and an upgrade this August, so I may have another phone by the time Moto/VZW get around to the update.)

Like you, I have days where Google Services is acting fine, as it was yesterday (it was sixth in the battery list at only 5%.) Today? Fourth at 10%.

I've read others point the finger at Google Calendar. I do use Sunrise calendar these days, I may choose to turn off calendar sync in my account in settings / google just to see what happens. (I don't know if that will affect Google Now, though, and its ability to tell me when to leave for an appointment. Well, I will test that, too.)

I've also switched to the InBox app for email, which does seem to use more battery, but I turned off sync to the Gmail app at the same time to minimize the effect.

I just turned off sync for GMail. I didn't even think of that until recently after switching to Inbox. A couple of high use days here and there are fine but I'm going on day four here...
