Is there Hamachi or anything similar for droid?

hmm... so homepipe basically just sets up a webserver on your pc...?

Well it is a little more complex than that but only to make things easier for you. Homepipe does not set up a server on any of your computer which means no need to open up ports on routers or modify firewall rules. What it does is sets up a secure tunnel to there servers.

Have you ever heard of a pogoplug? Well it pretty much does the same thing as that but instead of purchasing hardware you run it on your pc or mac.

Well, for simple (or complex) file browsing on my home PC via WiFi on my HTC Desire, I use "EStrong" file manager :)

xda-developers - View Single Post - Best file manager (no, it is not ASTRO)

It works. I could copy, cut, paste from home PC to HTC Desire and vice versa.

It has FTP client as well!

Note: If you have issue with HTC Photo Album does not recognize images that you copied from home PC using file explorer or FTP, use "SDRescan" app to re-scan your sd-card.

Just a heads up for those looking for a media streaming program. Check out Orb (MyCast your digital media with Orb 2.0 remote pc access software). Very similar to homepipe, but seems to work much better. Homepipe has always been slow and cluddgy for me regardless of using cell phone, cable or DSL internet. While Orb has worked well from day one.

There is an app in the adroid market for it. The only issue I've noticed is that there can be a gap between songs while the buffer refills, but I think that has to do with the internet service provider I have for my phone. Once the entire song has made it into the buffer, my internet signal seems to drop until it's time to load the next song. However when I browse the internet while listening l get a very minimal pause between songs.

I've only streamed audio and video saved on one of my home PC's, but they also offer webcam, documents, pictures, games and file browsing

Ugh. Orb. Horrible. Horrible compression and sync issues on transcoded video, sluggish app, buggy, overpriced, etc. Never was pleased with it.

If you're just looking for music, Subsonic works, though *requires* a "donation" to use past the trial period. And the minimum "donation" is 10 pounds sterling, as far as I could find on the website. It does do precaching of upcoming songs, so it's very good if you go in and out of cell areas.

There's also JRiver's Gizmo, though that requires their $50 music/media management and streaming program and isn't as good as Subsonic for streaming management on mobile devices.

Video I do Gmote's newish streaming capabilities, but you have to pre-encode your video. I set up a Dynamic domain name for my streaming server with custom NAT translation to get around my ISP, and have no problems accessing my server remotely. Not exactly user friendfly. It doesn't transcode. Still looking for a good replacement for AirVideo from the iPhone world (that program was godlike in transcoding on the fly).

For raw file access, I'd vote for HomePipe. Easy to set up without having to finangle with detailed port setups for WAN access. If you wanna access anything out of My Documents, you can use symlinks/junctions. See MKLINK via command prompt in Vista and higher. There's alternative programs that give junction functionality online for XP.

I used hamachi myself and they even fooled me into vuying their crappy ignituon rdp hoping it had vpn support...no such luck, i actually found that streaming is the best way to go...i use a combination of tversity and bubble upnp server on my comp and bubble upnp on my thunderbolt....

Tversity creates a dlna media server that advertises folders i tell it to on my home network...
Bubble upnp servee makes it easy to open the tversity server to the internet...
And bubble upnp app via its server counterpart on my comp allows me to access my movies music and shows anywhere i have internet....bubble also allows tethering meaning it can grant access to say a dlna tv on your friends network from your house a map would be this:
Your homeN --> internet --> your phone --> your friends Tv via thier homeN
It may seem a little complicated but its really notand everything is free except the bubble upnp phone app...it has a 30 min cap free edition to trial it though...
I highly recommend this as your solution...it is the easiest i have found for such things...
Bubble app also allows downloading to your device and is not restricted to music or movies...you can download anything....
Other recommendations:
RDP: teamviewer
File transfering local net: wireless transfer pro

Hamachi or Logmein didn't come up in any market search.. (i just tried)
Are you sure it's available?
If you can't find the app on your device. try on the computer. If you can only find it on the computer that means your device can't run the app. You need to update the software.(If you device lets you. try in phone info, there may be an update section)
