To Leather or not to leather?

Just got the G4 with the gray plastic back, but now I am thinking I should have gone leather. Ok, I'll just order one from LG. Nope. Black (the only color I want) is not available.

So two questions:

1. Is it possible to buy a genuine OEM black leather back?
2. Should I exchange the phone for the black leather back? - I have about 8 days left on the 14 day return policy.

I am leaning toward exchanging since I will more likely be able to find a gray plastic back on ebay or the forums than black leather. Anybody have any feedback on their leather back?

Thanks!

The brown leather version I had for a week already suffered from some premature edge wear at the corners.
The leather backs look nice but I'm of the opinion that they are not long for this world unless protected on the
edges with some sort of bumper guard - which there doesn't seem to be many of at the present time.

These leather backs feel real nice in the hand though ...

i love the leather, i ve only touched the plastic case when i was looking at the phone in carphone warehouse- hot sunny day- i generally have sweaty hands and the phones slipped out off my hands.

yet the leather case- had the phone for 2weeks now- never slipped, but i am worried about the leather wearing from edges- its currently fine with no marks- but i have bought a case from spigen ultra rugged case

I would personally keep the plastic back being there are very few cases that fit the leather back (I'm in that boat right now -- T-Mobile brown). I also have a feeling the leather will eventually come apart from the plastic it is adhered to. Looks and feels amazing one week in though! I may return my G4 because of a piece of dirt under the glass and, if I do, ask for the plastic back.

Another option would be to keep the plastic back and take advantage of LG's promo of buy one leather back at $70 get another one for free (I believe though June 30th).

I see what is going on here. The color of the leather dictates the quality. The black one with the nubby finish is the durable type. The smooth ones are susceptible to peeling and are of pretty bad quality. They are NOTHING like the Moto leather backs. They don't even loo0k or feel like real leather. I have a stock black one from day one with no wear at all. The crown one that has been shown peeling in pics is of bad quality and this promo red one I just received is clearly of that same bad quality. I would only recommend the black stock leather back at this point. Be warned!

I got the black leather back with my phone. I purchased the plastic back for times I wanted to use a case that I bought. I received the red-ish back as part of the freebie promotion. The black back is kind of slick and slippery...not very leathery. The red leather back is smoother with a more leathery feel with a better grip. The plastic is, well, plastic. Even though I wanted and got the black leather with the phone...the red feels better in my hand and that's what I use, color preference aside.

I hated the promo red leather color (at least for men) and dyed it black. Not perfect, but it works for me. So I get the smoother finish with the black color. Actually, the color looks more like burnt dark dark brown. Probably if you bring the back to a good shoe repair shop, they would do a proper dye job.
