Help MTP USB device fail

I have been trying to link my phone specifically to my PC at home (Dell 620 Inspir) and have no luck getting it to sense my phone as a drive. I am not a expert by any means but figured I should ask the questions to the people that know.

I have a Motorola Droid Razr M on Android 4.1.1, system version 98.12.4.xt907..US.

I am running Windows 7 64bit and I can connect all my flashdrives and they run as they are supposed to. When I first purchased my Razr M I could plug it up and use my desktop to put music and audio books on the device. If I can remember correctly there was a update and since then I have been unable to use my PC to load anything onto my phone.

I don't believe that its the phone specifically due to the fact I can use my wife's laptop and it senses my phone like it should. I am trying to fix some problems with my phone and using a laptop is very uncomfortable as I am a multi monitor person and Laptops are too small.

I can post a more detailed description of what all measures I have taken as soon as I leave work but the main problems I have encountered are as follows:

"MTP USB device failed" with a yellow triangle and a exclamation mark

This shows up in the device manager and when I uninstalled everything Motorola and phone related I rebooted and then re-installed the drivers and the motorola updater.

There was one article I found that discussed the problems the MTP and gave a link to download a file that pertained to helping MTP update properly....when I get home I will post the website and the software.

Nontheless, my phone will still not connect to my PC. I will write up a detailed description of what steps I took but after about 6 hours of messing with this I figured advice may be neccessary.

I know this site is more phone based but it is in a sense somewhat related.

Do you have the Moto device driver installed?
It's on the Moto site under support.
Also when the M first came out it had ICS and you could use it as a
vanilla mass storage usb drive. Now with JB your choices are MTP for files,
or PTP for pictures. I think you need the Moto driver for these.

have you tried hooking it up as a camera?

Yes, I tried both options without success with "my" computer. My wife's pc does what I want with my phone linked to it. I did try that and it still didn't work.

I installed it and had no success.....it continuously fails to install anything MTP related. The drivers were installed monday and after failing I uninstalled everything on my PC and even factory reset my phone. Then went through the process to re-install all components again. Phone updated fine, it installed the ADB interface fine, but when it came to MTP USB device...it failed again.

Better yet No wires needed.

AirDroid

I just downloaded this today when I saw your post so if this works your a genius. It looks pretty cool so im going to try it out tonight when i get off work.

AirDroid

Hi argedion,

I've seen you proposed a thing that fixed the problem... but I don't understand what is the solution?

The AirDroid solved the problem of connecting to my PC.

Please, I've the same problem. I'm under Windows 7 64-bit.
Thanks!

My phone is doing Exactly the same thing as yours and I have found NO resolutions for the issue as stated. I didn't have this issue till I upgraded the phones software version to the newest...This is VERY VERY VERY Frustrating as this is a Motorola / Android issue NOT a Windows 7 issue. My Portal works perfect, it's everything else that doesn't work.[BR][BR]I've not tried the AirAndroid yet but I DO NOT USE WIRELESS as there are way too many issues using radio waves at any frequency. COME ON MOTOROLA FIX THIS ISSUE...

Besides I want to use the USB Cable to Power (Charge) my phone...The Phone Portal part works fine it's when I choose None or USB Mass Storage I get the "MTP USB device failed"...It's more of a Frustration then anything else.

Found a Fix for this issue. Here's a PDF Document of how to fix this issue.
This worked for me just perfect. Seems Windows has a Driver Mismatch.

I have just recently started having this same problem...5 days ago, my Samsung linked just fine with my HP PC w/ Win7 & 64bit. But now everything i have tried from forums and other wesites fail to produce results. One thing that happened recently was that Windows tried to update but failed, and said something like "Reverting back....." I have had several update problems with my PC, but none ever interfered with my MTP USP device(s). Today is July 18, 2015, so a lot may have changed since your 2013 post...the link in your post now does nothing but give me the 404 of death...and I was REALLY hopeful...any ideas? I have tried all the usual things...removing the drivers to let windows reinstall, uninstalled and reinstalled the SAMSUNG_USB_DRIVER_FOR_MOBILE_PHONES (v1.5.45.0)....I am LOSING MY MIND!!! I don;t know how it can just stop working out of the blue! Any help would greatly appreciated. Chad Bedford
PS: I do have Airdroid, but I simply don't like the idea of my files flying through the air...I want a harrdline connection.
