Root Really, REAlly, REALLY messed up Contacts!

While on my Google account I noticed that I could merge all my fragmented addresses and phone numbers and such so I DID. Then all hell broke loose within my Contacts on my G3. Most of my contacts are just completely jumbled up - for example: one persons contact will have another's phone # while the email will be yet another person's email! So when I am getting an incoming call, my screen may say that it's "BillyBob". Yet when I answer, it may be "BessieSue"! I did the merge on my laptop but all those are seemingly unaffected - just the ones on my G3 are screwed up. Anyone have ANY idea how best to remedy this short of flashing a new rom?

This has nothing to do with flashing a ROM.

I don't know exactly what you did that fouled your contacts up so badly. But to put your Google contacts back the way they were and on the G3, do this:

1. Turn off contacts sync on the G3.

2. Delete all the trashed contacts on the G3. Settings > Apps > All > Contacts storage > Clear cache > Clear data.

3. On a computer or the phone browser, go here. This will restore contacts to any point they were at in the last 30 days. Just pick a day prior to the tragedy:

4. Once contacts are restored, turn contacts sync back on and resync to the G3.

You are healed.

Thanks Crash for your reply and suggestion. It appears to be a good method and is step-by-step. I like that! As I said, all I did was click on a little button that said something to the effect "Click to Merge all contact Info..." and VOILA - my mess! At any rate, I HAD to fix it so I simply restored a known working nandroid backup. All is good except losing some data from the past several days while I was on that newer version ROM. I did NOT want to backup any part of that misery!
