Help battery drain after lollipop update?

anyone noticed that the droid turbo battery drains faster after the lollipop update. maybe it's just my imagination, but i think it indeed has started to drain faster. did factory reset and little if any change.

thoughts anyone?

Mine us DUMPING! The battery is draining from full charge to 25% in about 8 hours with very little screen time. Today I made and received 7 calls for a total talk time of 32 minutes, sent and received about 20 texts (no photos), was on Facebook for about 10 minutes, and ran two quick google searches. My phone was at 100% at 7:00 am and 23% when I charged it at around 4:00 pm.

Looking at the battery stars the Android Mediaserver is consuming huge power closely folloed by the Android OS.

On KK this phone could go 36+ hours on heavy usage.

HELP!

Android mediaserver runs when you play video, listen to music, etc. Were you doing any of those things?

If not, then it's possible that you have a file in storage that android's mediaserver (which is always looking for video, audio and photos) thinks is one of those but is not, or is corrupted.

See this article, which I think has some items that can help (the stuff that requires root is unhelpful in your case.) http://geeknizer.com/fix-android-media-server-scanner-sdcard-cpu-battery-drain/

However, one thing that you can try (if clearing data from Settings > applications > Media Storage doesn't help) is to connect your phone to a PC, copy all of the files off of your phone's storage, and then just erase all of the files and start over. Pain in the neck, but at least you'll have backups. (I upload all of my photos to Google Photos anyway, and using that app I can see the photos online as if they were on my phone.)

After you do the Wipe Cache Partition checkout your GPS usage.

+1 for this. GPS is notoriously a power hog. One thing I noticed going from KitKat to Lollipop is that Google appears to have made as difficult as possible to turn off data and location services. With KitKat I used the power control widget and could with one tap turn on/off data and GPS. Now the Motorola Power Control widget is gone and even installing a couple of similar apps the widget toggle act only as a shortcurt to the setting page for Mobile Data and Location. According to the developer, with Lollipop Goggle has eliminated direct access to Data and GPS on/off. Go figure...

GPS is a real pain, not only the toggle just takes you to the setting page, then you have to tap on "Mode" and select "Battery Saving" if you want to actually keep the GPS off. To turn it on, you have to select either "Device only" (no assisted GPS, it may take longer to lock on the signals) or "High Accuracy" (GPS + Wi-Fi + Cellular Networks).

What you could do with one tap on a home screen widget in KitKat now takes three taps on three different screens plus another one on the "Home" capacitive button to go back to where you started. That's progress, folks :) !!!!

google it or search on here. i can't seem to find the post that i saw it on, oaklane, it's really easy also, dig deep in there and make sure your GPS is off. i have seen better battery life by turning it to battery saving mode. :) with lollipop the GPS is always on by default.

I had hoped to get back on here sooner with an update but life got in the way. Previous to my post, I had wiped the cache, yet still had the problem. For whatever reason it took 3 more attempts at wiping the cache and then the problem "magically" went away. The phone has now been solid for over a week. Battery life with high amounts of screen time and data usage has been 36 hours or so. All seems to be good now.

Hello,

Please elaborate on this subject. I am experiencing battery drain. I have done the cache wiping thingie. My location is set at off.
For example, my phone was fully charged yesterday at 5PM. Very little use last night and none overnight. Check emails and texting this morning, a little browsing and battery is at 43% by 11:00 am.

It's interesting. I didn't realize that the update made my battery life shorter. I did note it a few times wiht a "hmmm, that's interseting" but chalked it up to my usage. After the patch upgrade, I'm back to he old battery life. 2PM in the afternoon and I have 81% battery. Prior to the patch, I'm thinking it would have been at 60% or less.

PS: I left the GPS along at high fideity
