Hey guys, I've got a Droid Turbo running 5.1 (stock) and I was messing with some of the dev settings last night and I turned one on and since then I've been getting this error. I've rebooted the phone several times and I still get it. I still get my notifications and whatnot on the lock screen but if I plug it in or unlock it I just get this error constantly.

I flipped something to do with showing bounding boxes for everything (under show pointer) and turned it off then hit the one right under that and that's where my problem started. How can I fix this short of a (hopefully unneeded) factory reset? Thanks in advance!

I am sure that the setting you changed was "Force RTL layout direction". This is a know "bug" with the lollipop build on the Turbo, and I'm afraid to tell you that the only solution that I know of is to do a factory data reset from recovery. (I call it a "bug" though clearly, as I am about to detail for the sake of everyone else, developer settings are not really meant to be used for people's day to day devices.)

I'm sorry that this has happened to you, and it is too bad that changing a user-facing setting, no matter whether it is in developer options or not, requires so drastic a fix.

For the sake of everybody else: Quite honestly, the settings in developer settings are really not meant to used by "real" users are truly meant to be used by developers (hence, the name) for doing testing of their apps in various conditions. Especially if you have no idea what a particular settings are designed for, you should be extra careful to change any of those settings unless you are prepared to do a factory reset.

Instructions for a factory data reset from recovery are in Thom's post here: Droid Turbo Reference and Tips (follow the instructions under "reset when powered off".)

[edit]Yeah, I don't think it's possible. Once SystemUI fails, you cannot connect to get anything off the phone. If your contacts were synced with Google or Verizon Backup Assistant, they will sync back after the FDR.

See post by sxrguyinma below: if you can connect the phone to a PC, you should be able to at least back up your photos and videos.[/edit]

Yea I hooked it up via USB and got all my pics and whatnot off. I also found my contacts in my Bluetooth folder so I copied those as well. I did the reset and Verizon popped right in and asked if I wanted to restore everything with my backup that was last done this morning and it's transferring as I type. Thank you for your help!
