Help Cyanogenmod 12.1. wont flash GAPPS

Hi,
I updated to Cyanogenmod 12.1 nightly on my Oneplus One using TWARP recovery. It installed fine , but the GAPPS (latest version ) I installed did not and will not install.
On-top of that i have tried flashing many other roms and even numerous factory resets but nothing will load and nothing will remove the troublesome version of Cyanogenmod 12.1 that i just installed.

Any advice, please

Did you not make a backup in recovery? That should always be step 1 before flashing anything. If you made a backup, simply restore it.

What rom were you running before this? If you were stock, what build number were you on? Are you flashing the correct GApps? Are you able to link us to the GApps you tried to flash?

I actually didn't do a recovery, I backed all up with titaium . (silly)
I was running a previous build of cm 12.1 ( couple of months back ) gapps version GAPPS-L-4-21-15.zip
