Just a few days ago, it seems like a certainty that Sprint would be pushing out Android 2.1 updates to the aging Samsung Moment and HTC Hero, but now a company admin has stepped in to assure us that things aren't nearly that close to go. The full text is pasted in after the break, but the long and short of it is this: the long-awaited 2.1 update is now on track "to be available in Q2."
I've said it before, and I'll say it again people: don't lose perspective. So, I'm giving up HTC, not buying another HTC, telling everyone who asks about HTC that they should not buy it.
This is all result of the thing that HTC doesn't seem to have any respect towards me, only money that new sales make.
Everyone can kick and scream all they want, but the reality is that we should just shut the f*ck up and be glad that we, as Hero owners with a fully functional OS (1.5), will be getting a free upgrade (not update) eventually (and if we don't, nobody is ripping us off, HTC has carefully kept very silent in making no official promises in regards of dates for releasing this upgrade for our handsets).
Seriously, I'm tired of people complaining like the world owes them something. You paid your money and you got a working device, deal with it or get an iPhone and be chic.

Yes, PikkuJeesus, there is reason to be dissapointed and all, but that's one thing. However this furstration of yours (and of many) expressed in the forums around this issue seems unjustified.
When you first bought your handset, you were provided with a fully functional handset with a fully functional OS (Android 1.5). If there are bug fixes that needed to be taken care of in the firmware, HTC had the responsibility of fixing it through what is called "firmware updates" for Android 1.5 (and they have done that).
Getting Android 2.1 on our Heros is something HTC is giving us without a contractual obligation. Having our firmware revamped from Android Cupcake (1.5) to Android Eclair (2.1) is not a firmware "update" but a firmware "upgrade". If you purchase a computer with windows XP, Microsoft will realease updates to keep XP up-to-date in your machine. When Microsoft released Windows Vista and Windows 7, those were not updates, those are new operating systems and it is up to you whether you want to upgrade (not update) to the new version of such OS.

Well, if many insist in looking at the situation as exercising our "right to cry" (and I guess now we ought to have a reason to be fulfilled in our nagging) here's your reason (posted previously by Xtiro):Why should I shut the **** up?
If I think that something is wrong, why shouldn't I shout it out?

Sprint: Samsung Moment and HTC Hero Android 2.1 updates now coming 'in Q2' -- Engadget
Do we all feel better now?
I would ask Google what they think of this, and what their thoughts are on HTC not doing what they should and when they should do it. What do they think of HTC screwing up their profits and giving their platform a bad name, and what Google should do from now on to ensure the positive experience of users of the Android platform. That would be the answer of the decade in my mind.
