State of Confusion (FL too)
Hi Everyone...

I just picked up an M9 yesterday and looking to root the phone. I was wondering if I must or perhaps should have an SD Card installed before I root the phone?? Is there a requirement or benefit to having the card installed while rooting?? Anything I can't do at a later time??

Reason I'm asking is that I'd like to root now/today, however, the card I'm getting won't be available to me for a couple days :(

Thanks!!

Scott

You don't need an SD card to root.

Thanks Cap. I saw the [GUIDE] [NOOB Friendly] Root and Install TWRP on HTC One M9 post at XDA that that SuperSU installed on the SD card. I guess it would just go to the internal if there is no card.

If not necessary, is there any benefit to installing SuperSU on the card or having a card installed during the root process??

Thanks!

Nope. It's just an alternate storage location.

One more follow up post Cap....thanks! :)

I just received my SD Card in the mail...64GB SanDisk Extreme Class 10/U3 card. I confirmed that the card is already formated exFAT and is good to go.

Questions....

(1) If I confirmed that it is factory formatted as indicated above, is there any other reason to re-format for use??

(2) Is here a need to partition the card?? If so, why and how much should the partition be?? Last time I needed to look into partitioning was back with my original HTC EVO, I believe, with moving apps to the SD Card....I think....

(3) Thirdly....I created a "System Image" recovery nandroid upon initially rooting my phone. The file, as you probably know, is huge...nearly 10GB. Not having my SD Card installed upon rooting, unbeknownst to me at the time, the nandroid backup was saved to the internal memory of my phone and when I tried to transfer the almost-10-GB file to computer from the phone via Android File Transfer, it stopped the transfer right after the 4GB mark. With the exFAT formatting that I have on my SD Card, will I have any problems transferring the file from the internal memory of the phone to my SD Card??

(4) Lastly, are there any flashing concerns if I keep files nandroid files...such as he System Image nandroid backup I created or a VenonONE ROM zip??

Thanks so much!!
