I am biased, but the Stylo is better.
I had the Zmax for a month. Washed out looking screen, that couldnt get very bright. The UI they use plain, but not stock Android like a Motorola. Good battery, but so does the Stylo. Same 1.2GHZ quad cpu. The 626s has a lame 1.1quad.
Stylo (Tmobile-Metro) has already been updated to Lolipop 5.1.1, I dont think the Zmax is past KitKat, and probably wont.
My Gf has the stylo and she absolutely loves it. The battery life is very impressive and she has said she has yet to see any lag. Only thing is apparently you might need to update the camera app to a different one but that's it.
I just got the Zmax a week ago. It's an excellent phone for the money. However of you can afford the Stylo that would be the better choice. Sadly the Zmax won't be getting upgraded to Lollipop.

Yeah sucks the ZTE won't upgrade to Lollipop. Some BS about the phone won't run it. I couldn't pass up the Zmax since I got it used in mint condition for $50.00
I just picked up a used Stylo (looks new) and it is a fantastic phone for the price. Coming from Samsung, I wanted something different and this fit the bill.

That's just zte being lazy seeing as the zmax has almost identical specs to the Fierce XL and better specs than the Galaxy core prime and both are on 5.1.1.
