Note 4 owners: will you upgrade to Galaxy Note 5?

Okay, I went into Best Buy, just to see the Note 5 in person. I absolutely love the form factor. It feels significantly better and easier to hold than the Note 3 and Note 4, IMO. Had they made the Note 4 closer to this, as far as physical dimensions, I definitely would've upgraded last year. That said, I still won't be getting the Note 5. Best of luck to all of you that do upgrade and enjoy.
Just ordered a clear body skin moments ago, definitely don't wanna bulk-up this phone.
Wouldn't have bothered getting it otherwise, the feel-in-hand is a big part of why I ordered it (ETA 8/24/15).

Yeah. If they pulled that off with the same fake leather back and micro sd slot last year, no doubt I would've stuck with my yearly upgrade theme. I wouldn't even have m I nded if they decreased the battery size last year, just to get the form factor thinner like this year.

Oh well. Enjoy!

@toptobottom - just wanted to point out that Huawei isn't a no-name brand - they're the largest telecom equipment manufacturer in the world, and the fourth largest producer of phones. They're producing the next top end Nexus (there will be two this year) and they're targeting the US and China for their upcoming growth markets in smartphones.

You're definitely going to be seeing a lot more about Huawei but not because Samsung left the door open for a no-name brand. They're dead serious about gaining here.

I got my 5 yesterday. A Verizon 64GB Black one. It's the best Note yet, in my humble opinion.
I started with the Note 2, next to the 4 and yesterday the 5.
Screen is best yet. Sound is best yet. Bench marks on battery at or near best yet. S Pen smooth as silk. Form factor best yet for small to medium hands. Camera, outstanding. No SD card is No big deal for me. Hello cloud? And, any sized battery in any device will require recharging at some point. What's the big deal? I always have Mophie's available at work, in the car and at home.
I'm 72, ready to retire and look forward to the 5 holding up for years.

Oh yeah, I've been waiting for Huawei to finally make an appearance on Sprint, much like Sony, so if they ever do make it to Sprint, it'd be a contender for me also.

I would like to see Sprint do this also. But I fear I might be on a different carrier by then. I am really thinking of going to a GSM carrier like T-Mobile.
If it weren't for the lack of service in my area for T-mobile, I would have left Sprint for them a long time ago.

And for those of you thinking of replying that T-mobile has wifi calling... I've already verified that it doesn't improve signal for receiving calls, only placing.

In my area T-Mobile is really good. But I am afraid that when I leave my area that it will not be as good. I get good signal from Sprint in many areas that some networks don't. And now that Sprint will no longer have two year contracts at the end of this year, I just might switch so I can get better phones.

That Moto X Pure looks nice. Just worried about it's camera. But maybe Samsung will see the evil of it's ways and go back to removable battery and expandable storage next year. In the meantime I will continue to enjoy my Note 4.

Yeah, T-Mobile gets better signal and faster data in most areas in la except at my house.

I didn't even realize Sprint was ending subsidized deals at the end of the year. I seriously have to look into signal booster add-ons and then I will consider a switch.

Here is a couple of articles explaining about Sprint ending its subsidized deals.

Sprint's trying to give me a free M9 with strings attached. Pretty tempting.
I've still got mine,it'll be 5 months come Sept. 1st.
That's virtually a lifetime commitment in my Bizarro world.......................
If you're set on the display size, why not upgrade, especially since Sprint is going no-contract on their devices soon, may as well grab a "free" upgrade before they disappear.

It's the strings attached - I'll be committing to two years with the phone unless I go for payout penalties.

I would rather wait with what I have and see if T-Mobile is right for me now - they've really been building up out here.

And I want to check out the new Nexii before deciding.

But 5" is really in the zone for me, so the M9 would be a no-brainer - except for the strings...

WifelyMon asked me if I were someone else because she thought it was a pretty good deal. :D

Not a chance. If I'd wanted an impractical glass/metal body with fixed battery and memory, I'd have stayed with Apple. I'll stick with my N4 until something better comes along.

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS dCOLON13 !

The Note4 is a great phone,the last of a generation,I'm afraid.
Hope to see a revival of some sort in the future iterations of the Note of either/both the SD Card & removable battery.
Perhaps the Note5 Active is a candidate (rumored for AT&T come Nov. '15) for your next upgrade.
Would the ruggedized construction be enough to win you over?

There are reasonable arguments both pro and con comparing SD Card storage vs. the cloud. The choice of which is best to use is an individual decision. Fair enough.
There are those who say the glass back on the 5 is slippery. It is. My first thoughts when I picked up the 5 was it reminded me of both the original and Note 2 phones. I had the bright glossy white Note 2 phone and that was one slippery phone. Since I always use a cover, I never experienced a problem with the slippery back on my 2, and I doubt I will on my beautiful, best yet Note yet, 5. Remember all the flack Samsung took over how cheap the plastic was on those earlier Notes? And on my 4, I remember people slamming Samsung for putting out such a cheap looking fake leather look. But I thought the 4 was my best phone, ever. Who cares about the plastic? Go figure! So, the pluses and minuses of SD/Cloud, slippery back, etc. has been thoroughly covered on this thread. Enough!
So, to prevent this thread from winning the "Most boring" thread award, let's put these two issues on the back burner, and see some factual comparisons why you would switch from the 5 to another phone based on substance.
My earlier posts I suggest the Note 5 is the best yet, IMO. Possibly the best overall Smart Phone available today, IMO. But, I'm just an old guy who loves the Note series, what do I know? Show me a more complete product, available for purchase right now, to best my 5.
But frankly, IMO, I doubt you'll find one.

Have been a loyalist right from Note and moved to Note2 then 3 and now using 4. But the run will surely take a backbeat in Note5. Two major disappointments are already highlighted above, missing SD card as even in N4 I am using a 64G card (I am a data guy) cannot live with storage at all even at personal level I carry a 2TB HD. Plus the other fiasco is embedding battery inside the cell.

Samsung or say mostly all android have the same problem of hanging and when hard boot doesn't work, battery removal for sure is the best option, but they have killed it to. I have seen this issues in Nexus as well as HTC models and its not a good option to go with

A Big NO for Note5 as of now

I've just had that happen to tonight with a Lenovo. It wouldn't do anything, in a completely unresponsive power off state. Pulling the battery and re-inserting cleared it. If the battery was sealed, would either have to pull the phone apart and try and disconnect the battery, or wait a long time for it self discharge probably.

With phones that don't have a removable battery, there's typically a force soft restart protocol that people can follow, when their phone has stalled. With the Motorola Photon Q on Sprint, it was something like hold down volume up and power button at the same time.

Note 3 owner. Got it right around when they came out. Held onto it when the Note 4 came out because the Note 4 wasn't that much of an upgrade. Note 5 comes out and I don't even want it because no SD Card and no battery removal. On top of that there is no 128 GB version. Yes the cloud is the future but it's not my future. I only have the 1 GB data plan through tmobile right now and cloud computing would make me cap that really fast. I want phone storage. I have a home cloud setup anyway so I don't have to pay a monthly fee and I don't have to worry about being hacked or others seeing what I put there.

LG G4 Pro looks to me like my next phone if all the rumors are true on the specs. I can wait two months until it comes out. My Note 3 is still working fine. Samsung dropped the ball and will continue to lose fanbase if they keep going with this model for their new flagship phones.
