T-Mobile threatens to impose limited plans on data thiefs

I don't think it's a "lie" when T-Mobile plainly and openly offers unlimited data for your mobile phone and a clearly-published cap of 7GB of data to use for tethering other devices.

When some users are (apparently) using up to 2TB (that's ~2000 GB, depending on how you're counting), that's definitely clear abuse of the network. I feel like T-Mobile is well within their rights on this one.

It's not going to be a popular opinion, I'm sure.

I will maintain..data is data
And I get that. I can definitely understand the argument that you pay for X amount of data, and it's up to you to decide what you do with that. And I agree - to a point.

This issue, though, goes way beyond simple net neutrality. Using 2TB of data on a mobile plan is abuse of that plan, whether the data is tethered or not. There's simply no reason for that sort of usage on a mobile device.

I would like to see T-Mobile publish something other than "3,000 users" or "1/100th of 1 percent" - I want them to say clearly "if you use more than X GB, we're coming for you." Assuming that they're only looking at people who regularly use more than, say, 500GB every month, I'm completely okay with this crackdown.

Except its marketed as "unlimited" with an impossible to reach limit

I say go for it and watch him get flak for cracking down on the lie of unlimited data. Last i checked data is data due to net neutrality. John may outright lose this one.

Net Neutrality does not have anything to do with the type of device they sell data for. The "data is data" has to do with the source; they can't give faster speeds to MSNBC and tether Fox News. It has nothing to do with the speeds you contract for, nor does it prevent limiting what devices you can use your data on.

One thing that also gets me. What if it isnt tethering we are assuming it is because john said it explicitly.
Will they get let off or still be moved to the lowered plan.

I understand better now thank you. Data is data but they control how you use the data they give you.

You are correct Dirty Dee, unlimited should be just that. Tmobile/Metro PCS has enough customers with unlimited plans that hardly us anywhere near the limit that they claim bogs down the network...That should be enough to offset the abusers that they claim are "bogging down" the network. I know 7 or 8 people personally that has unlimited everything that uses only 10 to 20% of there "allotted" allowance of data used each month.......
