This week has been horrible for my phone. Actually, my wife and I are suffering from the same issue with our Hydro Vibes. For some odd reason, Google Play services has decided that it will simply not cooperate. For instance, I can open Inbox, Hangouts, Calendar, Play Games, Play books, Photos and of course the Play Store but Wallet, YouTube, YouTube Gaming, Play Music and Google Drive all force close. I have performed two factory resets this week and nothing has helped. Even contacting Kyocera and Virgin Mobile left me with no positive result. Is anyone else having the same issue?

I have had the same issue as well, and it's so dumb that all the apps I love don't work but the worthless ones to me crash. I didn't call Kyocera or Sprint, however I called Google for support and they told me to call Kyocera. We'll have to contact either google or Kyocera again so they can get this garbage sorted out.

It sucks that you're also having this issue but it's awesome that I'm not the only one with this problem. That marks three users so far. If you, my wife and myself are having this issue than it has to be device wide. I'm just surprised that other Hydro Vibe users arent complaining. Virgin Mobile offered to replace my phone for $25. While I might take them up on that offer later (as a device refresh), the fact is, simply replacing the phone will not solve this issue. It's software related and someone on either Google's or Kyocera's end has dropped the ball.

Do you guys all have twitter? We could mass tweet Kyocera. Otherwise multiple emails via the following page might give us a faster response.

Here is the email I sent to Kyocera

To whom it may concern,

As of September 9th, 2015 the Kyocera Hydro Vibe has ceased to cooperate with Google Play Services. For instance, I can open Inbox, Hangouts, Calendar, Play Games, Play books, Photos and of course the Play Store but Wallet, YouTube, YouTube Gaming, Play Music and Google Drive all force close. It's so bad, I have had to revert both YouTube and Google Drive back to their factory versions.

Originally I thought that the issue was only with my phone and performed a factory reset on the 9th. When my wife confirmed that she was also dealing with the same issue the 11th (she also owns a Hydro Vibe), I proceeded to contact your company via live chat. I was told to contact Virgin Mobile and after nearly an hour with them all they could offer me was a replacement device.

To be sure it wasn't something that could be solved with a factory reset, I performed a second factory reset to confirm and again the problem was still there. This problem is not local to the two Hydro Vibe devices owned by my wife and myself. Other users are having the same issue. Please refer to this conversation over at android Forums:

This problem is software related and one user has already contacted Google. Google told that user to contact your company. It seems as if everyone is passing around the blame but nobody is taking in the information and doing something about it. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
*my name*

I have contacted Google yet again today, (mainly to cancel and get a refund for play music since I'm not paying for what I can't use) they tried to get Kyocera on the line but alas Kyocera is closed on the weekend.

I spoke to their supervisor and was told that they would forward the issue to their third tier of support (Google has three tiers of support) and that they would forward the issue to an engineer, but I don't believe he will. The supervisor called the posts on this forum uncredible and said "you can get anything you want to come up when you do a Google search" I proceeded to tell him that my grandparents with the same phone have the issue and its not just me and I'm not a liar.

Then they tried blaming Kyocera, even though I told them Kyocera hasn't pushed any updates to the device on September 11th.

The last thing he told me was to send it To Kyocera so they can flash it back to factory factory settings and I kind of laughed that he expects thousands of users to do that because we all have the same problem because Google updates play services... the regular Google associate was more helpful than the superior.

After reading this I decided to call Virgin Mobile once more to try to get higher level technical help. As always, V.M. wanted to perform a network update to make sure it's not anything with their service. Of course it wasn't. I made it to their "technical team" and after explaining to this gent the current issue, all he could offer was a replacement (after a 25 dollar fee of course). A replacement will not solve this issue. I told him that unless they want to replace however many hundreds of thousand Hydro Vibe devices, they need to contact Kyocera and inform them of the issue.

The representative told me that he did not receive any notice of an issue and that Virgin Mobile does not have a person that is a go between for their company and manufacturers in regards to tech problems. Basically, nobody is willing to help. It's time to switch to a different device. Just make sure your next device isn't one from Kyocera. They have a bad habit of supporting their device for one year and then throwing their hands up

Good luck everyone. We're going to need it.

Ok, a quick update on this, I got my Hydro Vibe when they first came out, my wife got hers last black Friday for 30 bucks. Hers is NOT seeing any of the Google play services issues, while mine is freaking out. She can launch the music, hangouts, everything without one error. (and of course I verified she is running all the latest versions of software as in latest hangouts, etc) All the hardware under the about phone settings match, not sure what this could be- sooooo-

I took the plunge and ordered one new in box from Ebay, I figure I'll try that one and see if it works, if it does, I'd be glad to work with those here still having the issue to try and determine the difference between my old phone and the new one. I'll keep you all posted as to my results.

Sorry I am not on the site much anymore. My work on this phone pretty much come to a end. While I still have this phone (which does not have this issue) I am using another phone more often now. But I did a search on this topic for keywords that didn't come up. So I'll attempt to try to help out anyway I can.

Now I did not read everything here. But I will ask someone with this issue to try to use a dial codes.

Return to the home screen and it will take effect. This will not delete anything. it will just force it to perform a reactivation just like when you got it. This will not do a factory reset. Allow it to do its thing pushing on "Ok" when prompted. When its done it will reboot your device. Then attempt to see if this fixed your issue. ((This code is safe to use on Rooted devices))

If issue goes on, then back up what you can as this next step may or may not wipe and do a full factory restore along with a carrier reset.

Some phones need MSL Codes to do this action but I do not think the Vibe (Virgin Mobile one at least) requires it. But if it does here a link to download the Keyocera MSL Code reader(I extracted the APK as I know you all have Google Services Issue) which can show you the code for this phone. The code it gives for this phone is correct. Like the last dial code it will ask if your sure and will work on resting, it should reboot then start up performing a reactivation. ((I have not used this code yet on a rooted device, so I cant speak to the effects of using it this may or may not effect it. At worse it might just unroot it in which case just reroot it))

If this still does not fix the issue there are other things i can think of but is hard without having one with the issue physically in my hands to look into the issue and debug. But I can hope one of these dial codes do something.

Good Luck People! :)

Puzzling, I find it hard to believe its a physical issues with the phone with no other app malfunctions. There must be something else wonky going on, something that also is screwy in the recovery partition. Really I am not sure without playing with a buggy phone myself and its a mixed bag of good for me. bad for you all that my Hydro vibe does not have these issues.

One thing I might try later on is extracting the Google Play Service's apk from my vibe and putting it up everyone to try from a vibe that's not derping (which is on the latest OTA).
