To buy or Not to buy S6

I have the Galaxy S4 that I ,have been quite happy with but have been waiting for the price of the S6 32GB flat to come down. The price has now lowered to what I consider appropriate for an upgrade from my S4 to the S6, BUT after reading so many adverse comments here and elsewhere am now thinking - forget it.

Should I forget it and wait perhaps for the S7?

I think some criticism has been about the non-removable battery, no SD and glass back, in other words it's too similar to an iPhone...LOL.

I still think the S4 is a great device, especially for custom ROMs, and I've got one myself.

I don't think there's anything inherently bad about the S6 as long as you are cool with the non-removable battery and no SD card slot thing. I also think that much of the negativity comes from a vocal few while the majority of S6 owners are very happy with their phones. Of course, I'm not sure what you'd get from the S6 that your S4 isn't able to do, other than the bump in spec's.

The problem with waiting for the S7 is that a.) it's an unknown quantity right now. It would be safe to assume that the specs would be better than the S6, but exactly what they'll be is a crapshoot. And, b.) it will be the flagship at that point and command a premium price. If you have budget concerns, then you're better off with the S6. (or even better, hanging on to the S4 for a while longer.)

There was a law proposed last year ... House Bill 304.26, The Freedom from Allegory Act. I beleive it was defeated when congress didn't get it.

If you wait you'll be in the same position you were when the S6 came out -- too expensive.

I think the S6 is a great phone. I moved up from an S3 and am a very happy camper. It's faster, better screen and amazing camera. Photos are almost as good as my Nikon D3. I've not experienced any of the 'issues' some people seem to have. Battery lasts all day, 32GB is about half full. 3 GB is about 75% most of the time. Nothing slows down. Bear in mind I have a 920I (unlocked model for US) so no carrier bloatware. I receive updates from Samsung. Sometimes before the carriers roll their stuff out.

If I were you, I'd take the negative comments on these sites with a 'grain of salt'. I believe some of it is fanboy BS and some of it is clueless users.

I finally took the plunge on Friday and bought a 32gb S6, upgrading from an S4 and I honestly believe I won't ever want another phone.

The overall speed of it is astounding. The camera is absolutely unbelievable - seriously, you will not believe the quality, and the speed of opening from lock screen. Although I only ever used the multi-window/multi-tasking feature on my S4 occasionally, I use it all the time on my S6; being able to listen to YouTube vids and reply to messages/emails with such speed is just staggering.

Battery life is ok, but I'm still in the honeymoon period and turn it on just to look at the screen. I'm also trialing a process of trying to keep the battery charged between 40-80% while near a plug socket. This is apparently supposed to increase the life of that fixed (grrr) battery.

Having been used to a 32gb card in my S4, I can honestly say that it won't be that much of a ball-ache going to fixed storage and the benefits for outweigh the cons: it's faster to access stuff and more secure and also more reliable than a card. I'll have to archive photos and keep an eye on the amount of music I have on it (yes, I actually buy mp3s and store them on my device lol).

I'd say get it, mate. You really will wonder why you waited to get it!

Just out of interest I had the original Galaxy S when they first came out circa 2010/2011. Then it was unbelievable. I then went to the S3 and then to the S4. I got the original Galaxy S out last week and thought as to how old fashioned it appeared.

I think that I still might very well go for the S6 Flat.

To those who think that the S6 is great - What possible are downsides are there to it apart from the battery/card issues(?)

I think the only *slight* disappointment for me is the fingerprint scanner. Don't get me wrong, it's fantastic and when it works - which is absolutely most of the time - it's great, but I was expecting it to be flawless and it isn't. That's probably down to my admittedly high expectations though.

After all my praise, I'm actually getting a replacement this week due to an issue with the headphone port; the headphone plug now doesn't go all the way in and, as you're plugging it in, it seems to get caught on something. I was using the headphones I've been using for years with both my S3 and S4 and never had any problems with.

There aren't many results on this issue from Google, but someone on Yahoo asked the same question about it.

My earphones go in OK.
I noticed that one of the criticisms on the forum was levelled at Smart Switch - I found that Smart Switch handled completely the transfer of all of my apps, data etc. from the S4 to the S6 quite easily. I have just spent the weekend ensuring that all of the apps work the same on the S6 as they did on the S4.

My headphones worked fine for a week, do keep an ear on them.

Smart Switch was flawless between my S4 and S6, wasn't between my mums S3 and my old S4 though.

I'll update with the S6 to S6 switch probably tomorrow.

Glad your liking your S6s

Smart Switch is a bit hit and miss. It is much better than it's predecessor Kies though, and here is the rub. If you ever had Kies installed completely uninstall it before installing Smart Switch, and I mean obliterate it. On a Windows PC use task manager to stop all Kies processes, unistall then use a registry cleaner to get rid of it totally. Kies is more pernicious than some AV software, and it will interfere with Smart Switch.

I have only used Smart Switch on phones. You indicate that its predecessor was Kies, I was not aware of this as I have not used Kies for a very, very long time.

I agreee totally.. If no removeable battery and no micro SD to replace; its off the consideration list. Go back to old models. or checkout the LG G4. Add them back in the S7 or 8 to get back in the ball game.

yes same with Note 5 I was considering.. but same problem. Travelers have same problem with cameras with no extra batteries and SD memory cards. Perhaps the next model to have it all; along with an Hmdi mini OUT port. (independent of the power). I hear you cant'even send phones to/from USA w/ batteries to Asia ???

I loved the camera at first and it does take some great shots. However the focusing seems hit and miss, and unlike any other such cam I find it will happily take shots that are entirely out of focus.

Also the focus is forever hunting, so instant translation apps or OCR apps are unusable.
