Got my first Nexus 6p Yesterday. Not impressed!

Got my new Nexus 6p yesterday and of course went right away to TMobile to change my Sim card to Nano Sim.
Played with the phone since yesterday 8pm. So far I am on borderline, return it or not. I have a 2yo LG G2 with the 5.2" screen, but looks like twice as smaller as the 6p. I guess screen to body ration makes a big difference - G2 has one of the best. I was just expecting from a phone 2 years younger to have less bezel, not more. I guess I wanted too much. Other then dimension of the phone I do like the hardware. It is very responsive, quick, finger print works flawlessly and camera takes very vivid pictures.
I am not sure I like the new Marshmallow OS though. You can only add more screens to your right, on the left side is the Google Now screen. Why do we need it when I can always get google now from the widget bar of from press and hold home button? I can't seem to figure out how to make different icons for the Gmail and Yahoo accounts (was much easier on LG).
I still can't figure out how to transfer all of my Applications settings from LG to 6p? Of course being Android, once I signed in to Google, it loaded all the apps I had on my LG, however, it did not load app settings I had in them. Also, it did not load all of my voice mails, call history, hangout and SMS messages (I use Hangout for both).

The Google Now screen is not a feature of Marshmallow, it's a feature of the Google Now Launcher. It's been that way for quite awhile. There are a large number of third-party launchers you can use instead if you don't like that feature. I use and recommend Nova Launcher, but there are other good ones out there as well.

Backup of app settings is a new feature in Marshmallow, so since you were using an earlier version on your previous phone, they were not backed up in the cloud. Going forward that should be fixed.

SMS messages and the like have to be transferred manually. Depending on your previous phone, there should be a way to export them and then import the file to the new phone.

As far as the design of the phone goes there's not much anyone can do about.

However, If you are trying to add home screens I would recommend that you try Nova Launcher. It's completely customizable and it's been the only launcher I've used for years now.

For your email accounts I would add them all into gmail and then when you go into the menu in the gmail app there will be a button for "All Inboxes" and you can click that and have all emails from all inboxed linked to the gmail app show up ot you can tap on the email address at the top of the menu and select the specific email address you are looking for.

As far as the application settings go you are generally $hit out of luck there. If you're coming from an older version of Android there's not much you can do.

I'm surprised to hear that hangouts doesn't sync your voice mails and texts that are sent to you through your google voice number (this is important because the texts that were sent to you through your main phone number don't actually go through hangouts. They remain on the phone and hangouts just reads the information and presents it to you). If you want to transfer your texts I would recommend an app called SMS backup and Restore. It's free. basically one you create the backup from in the app transfer the file over to your 6P open the app on your 6P and tap restore and select the file (you may need to tell it where to look for the file in the app menu). I normally tell the program where to save the file so I know where it is and then email the file to myself. I then open the email on my new phone and save the file.

Hope this helps!

I am trying the side launcher - GloveBox. So far, mixed results. It has loaded up at first and then I don't see it showing and does not look like I can side swipe to open it.

In regards of emails, I was so used to two different icons - one for Gmail and one for Yahoo (which was also for my work Exchange email). It just I get so much crap on Yahoo that I usually don't bother checking it on the phone. Gmail on the other hand is my primary email and I always checking it on the phone. Now it will be confusing, because all I see is that "some" email is in your inbox.

Another one here who recommends Nova Launcher... I've found it has the features I find most useful without adding bloat. I've always used titanium backup in the past to restore data but as I'm going to try going rootless for a while with the 6p once I get it, I'll have to check out Super Backup. Thanks Omar Days for the rec.

For simple things like sms, call logs, and contacts if you dont use google already to back them up, it does the job perfect. Can back up to cloud storage too. Could do with an updated look though. Looks like it's designed for Android doughnut :D

At least unlock the bootloader. That's the first thing I did.
