Help Charging over usb-ports of laptop, slow/nothing

So, I am charging, or rather, trying to charge, my 5x. Since the charger supplied with it is back home, i am using some cables i bought on amazon, with type-C connectors. I plug these into my laptop, since I dont have a wall plug with usb port handy at work.

However, charging over the usb port seems to do nothing, or at least not charge my battery. Then I tried a little usb-micro to type-c converter plug on an older samsung charger which does plug in the wall, but that didnt improve it either.

I know the supplied charger works, and I know my car charger i got works too, both rapid charging too.

Any ideas? Are laptop ports not supplying enough amps?

My Desktop PC does a decent job of charging my phone even thru the Qi pad that I have.

My ASUS laptop which is just a year old, will charge my Samsung S5 but at a very slow rate.
but at least it is keeping the battery at status quo and making a bit of headway.
How does a Qi pad work on the N5x when that doesnt have wireless charging?
So maybe it's the laptop, although the usb ports of the docking station dont do much better...

As for the laptop ports, I've tried using an Orzly 2m USB A to C cable and a shorter 1 m cwxuan A to C cable, both on the laptop and the laptop docking station. Both supply (as indicated by Ampere app with old method) around 310-320 mA maximum charging. The older Samsung micro USB charger plugged into a 230V outlet, combined with a adapter plug, supplies a very varying charge, going from about 110 mA, through to 600 mA.

I've been using A-to-C cables since I got my N5X and haven't had a problem.

Obviously, charging from the laptop USB is very slow compared to the 15W (5V x 3A) wall charger that comes with the phone, but it definitely works. I also have a A-to-C cable in my car and my phone has come out of the car fully charged after driving over an hour with Google Maps navigation working (I turn off the screen between turns, though).

I read that the phone will fast charge with other high wattage wall chargers but it will only draw a max of 15W (some fast chargers do 18W).
