Opening a DOCS file

Thanks, I have Google Docs installed but it just says file cannot be opened?
Is it possible the file was simply renamed to .docs, versus converted (typically from MS Office format)? If you have access to the original file (.doc, .docx, or .rtf), here are conversion instructions to make it available in Google Docs:

The two I use on Android for docs.
WPS Office
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wps.moffice_eng&hl=en
MS Office
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.office.officehub
...and if Microsoft Word can't open it, file might be corrupt.

I briefly looked at MS Word and quit before I downloaded it... the reviews backed me off.

I downloaded WPS Office and so far, it is not registered to work. It keeps asking me to get "free features", 1st time you do that it says for "1 month", exit out, and it repeats the "1 month"....

Exit out again and it says 3 months twice again.

Exit out, and then it says "6 months"...

exit out of that and it goes to the whole complete cycle of 1, 1, 3, 3, 6, 6, and repeat and you get the whole thing again... forever.

I just left it at that until I hear from someone what is going on here?
