Metro PCS - Major Changes

i dont understand this data maximizer thing...how does it detect that you are watching a video? i mean, if i am watching youtube via firefox beta instead of the youtube app, can they still detect its a video and drop the quality down to 480p?
If the streaming service is included in their program the Data Maximizer will apply to streaming apps and streaming through your browser. So yes they can detect videos through a browser.

yeah i really dont like the sound of this so ill be turning it off. they claim its designed to help us conserve our monthly allotment of data, but it really just sounds like their way of jipping us out of the data we are paying for. i hope it isnt a slippery slope towards even more throttling

Now í see where you're coming from. Yeah, they can detect everything...but í believe it's altruistic...no different than why opera and Google compress...helps both the company and the user.

Assuming I'm correct...it's not practical to analyze random browser clicks on the fly...decrypt it's video...compress...serve...without delaying things even further...at least consistently.
(They mentioned that even for YouTube they could only do 90%...waiting to iron things up soon.)
While conversely an app with whose authors and content delivery networks you have made prearrangements with..

I Have zero worries about anything nefarious.

Now If you mean detect hiddentethering overages....í don't know...but í Still doubt This too.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to turn this feature off on they website (don't have mymetro app on w10m)? I'm on an unlimited data plan and intend to get my money worth. Just checked my data usage and I'm at 9.82 GB /w my payment date on the 20th, so I'm not even an heavy user. John Legere can compress/throttle someone else video/data, I plan to keep watching everything in it's highest quality.

I'm pretty sure MetroPCS enables Data Maximizer by default, T-Mobile definitely has Data Maximizer on automatically.

Metro link, then click to learn more about Data Maximizer:

Data Maximizer works by automatically streaming video at resolutions that are ideal for smartphone screens. This technology allows you to watch DVD quality video and stream up to 3X longer. Without Data Maximizer, streaming video unnecessarily draws previous high-speed data at extremely fast rates, forcing you to reach your data limits early and slowing you down. Now, you are able to reserve your high speed data for the things like surfing the web, social networking, and downloading music or games. Should you not want to include the feature on your plan, you may simply turn it off at any time.

i was able to get to talk to an agent on the website through chat:

Valued Guest: I am trying to turn off the data maximizer service on the website but the my services option is greyed out and so I cannot select it

Billy: I'm awfully sorry that the website didn't allow you to deactivate the Data Maximizer, I will most certainly help you from my end !!!

Billy: I'm going to add the feature called Data Maximizer Disabled that will disable it

sounds to me like its definitely on by default

oh i wanted to share this also

Valued Guest: i just have one more question i think, i have read that i am supposed to be given an extra 1gb of data per month now? but under my plan it still says 4gb?

Billy: Ooh yes, indeed, I will fix that for you, we just need to manually migrate you to the new plan.

Valued Guest: oh i thought it would happen automatically? thats fine go ahead and do it manually if you have to...this will not make my monthly rate go up right?

Billy: Right, the price will be the same, the migration will be automatic but since we have so many customer, it's done gradually, no worries though, I was able to change it for you!

Valued Guest: so does that mean i have the music unlimited service added now as well?

Billy: Yep, that's correct too!! Pretty awesome I'd say!

No it says off as in when u select it it will turn it off. It's on by default.
Definitely on by default, I have the unlimited plan. Logged into my account through the website yesterday and went to the Services tab, under available services was Data Maximizer Off @$0.00. Selected Edit and checked it, hit Save and now it's off and shows as "Data Maximizer Disabled".

I just checked on website...í don't have the service but have option to order it.

Further, í just endured An intercontinental customer service call that also confirmed it is NOT turned on.

Personal thoughts:

1. No way í accidentally switched this off by clicking on it...as both @ my metro app and website it's listed as an optional additional service to order...and no way am i interested...Further, did NOT need to find out more about it/go to its website location.

2. I'm on the grandfathered Unlimited Promo.

3. Only possibilities I can think of:
A. Staggered Rollout( but why list it OFF initially?)
B. Unlimited Promo being protected(from inadvertent/ineligible Change that would trigger permanent/unrecoverable plan loss)
