Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] [Recovery][VM]TWRP v.2.8.0.0 for the LG Optimus F3

Been playing around with my new phone in my spare time the last few days. Got things working great now so I thought I'd post what worked for me in case anyone else has trouble. It's all here somewhere, but took me a while to pull it together. I know I'm repeating stuff, but having a step-by-step is great when you're trying to learn.

First off I rooted the new phone after figuring out how to move apks from my active phone with fileshare since the new phone isn't activated. Used iRoot (the new version of vRoot) and worked perfect first time again. After getting root I started working on the recovery. Heres the way it finally worked for me.

- Enable usb debugging.
- Install Flashify app.
- Download the recovery to my laptop.
- Unzip, open files, and find the .img file.
- Copy the .img file to the phone.
- Open Flashify, find the .img file, and flash.
- After flashing, Flashify asks if you want to reboot or flash more. Do not reboot! Choose "flash more" then close the app. Rebooting will factory reset the phone.
- Power the phone off.
- Once the phone is completely off, press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons at the same time.
- After a few seconds, a tiny message will pop up that says "Release all keys please, go to recovery mode waiting..." Immediately release both buttons.
- The screen will go black again. As soon as it does, immediately press and hold the buttons again!!! (thanks masterdbugger) This gave me a lot of trouble at first. If I don't immediately press and hold the buttons again, the phone will just boot into android. If I do, it works perfect every time.
- After a few seconds, the message will pop up again. This time just release the buttons and let them go. The message will disappear after a few seconds, the screen will go black, then boot into TWRP. Success!
-Select backup, then make sure to change backup location to external sd card before backing up.
- After backup, go back to the main TWRP screen, select reboot, then select Power Off. Otherwise the phone will be factory reset.

I backed up, factory reset the phone, then restored with TWRP and everything came back perfectly. Worked like a charm.

Thanks again to everyone who worked at developing this and everyone who posted their advice. Great work!

Thanks for the tip of letting go of the buttons twice. That made it work for me finally!

I don't find the part below necessary. I just hit the "Reboot System" button that shows up after backing things up and everything works find after a reboot.

"- After backup, go back to the main TWRP screen, select reboot, then select Power Off. Otherwise the phone will be factory reset."

The factory reset will only happen if you boot into recovery by any means other than using the button combo. For example, if in TWRP, you select 'reboot' and then select 'recovery' or in Cyanogenmod 10, Press and hold the power button and select 'reboot', and then 'reboot to recovery'. It always causes a kernel panic and wipes the /data folder.

As I'm typing this, I need to remind everyone that this thread is for Sprint/Virgin Moble. There is another TWRP Thread for the T-mobile/Metro PCS. It is the exact opposite, it Requires you to enter TWRP by issuing a boot into recovery command. The button combo on those phones causes the kernel panic. We can thank LG for that retardedness.
