No frills Launcher

In a word, customizations. These are my reasons for switching to Nova:
1. I wanted more icons on the home screen. The stock launcher only allowed four rows by four columns. I felt the screen was large enough to accommodate more than that.
2. I wanted to be able to to move the Apps icon out of the dock.
3. I wanted the dock icons to be slightly larger than the others.
4. I wanted to be able to edit the icons' captions, and even to use no captions at all for some of them.

Other features that weren't part of the reason for switching to Nova, but which I came to really love now, include:

1. The ability to customize the unread badges - font, size, background color, outline color...
2. The ability to set a custom action for the Home button. I've set it so that the first press takes me to the Home screen, then the second press (or the first, assuming I was already on the Home screen to begin with) turns off and locks the screen.

Wow, thank you everyone for the feedback! I'll check out Nova Prime and Apex and include as many customizations (while keeping it simple). Much appreciated!

Another question. How much are these customizations worth to you? How much would you have to get paid to use another launcher?

Posts #24, and #25 are precisely why I removed all of the other launchers I tried.

Nova Prime allows me to customize the Look, Feel, and number of Screens, and they never stop scrolling...

they just keep going around and around like a Merry Go Round.

I tried Apex, and I was unable to triple the Font Size....
at 73, my eyes can't read tiny print anymore, haven't been able to for 30 years now.

and I hate having to wonder where did I leave my Reading Glasses?
I can see perfectly fine "out yonder", but up close in my hands? Fer Ged Aboot It ( cowboy lingo ) :D

so, when I found Nova Launcher Prime it was God's Saving Grace...

I have a query which I don't know how to answer myself. I've created some folders but cannot move them from the front page in the app drawer. How can I move them?

Which launcher are you using?

Most likely, you can just do a Long Press and it will change appearance, and then you just drag and drop it somewhere else. that 'else' might be to the edge of the screen which will move it to another homescreen.

Once you long press the icon, a Trash Can appears on Samsung devices...

in Nova Launcher, a Long Press will bring up a menu asking what you want to do.... 'remove from screen' or 'uninstall'

Hello I'm using Nova. Don't seem to get to move them folders! Edit mode allows renaming and choosing what's in it iirc. All I want is for the first page to MOTD have my custom folders lol

Are you talking about Nova Launcher or Nova Launcher Prime?

With Nova Launcher Prime I can move a folder on any home screen page to any location on any home screen page. Just long press and drag it where I want.

In App Drawer I can drag it to Edit and then select a different drawer. The drawers themselves are in alphabetical order. There is an option to place the groups first in each drawer. I could rename them to appear in the order I want (rememberingthat they will be in alphabetical order).

Absolutely, just exactly like Thom and I both said..... and I made it clear that I was talking about Nova Prime...

I have moved my Folders all over the place, resort them, then decide no! I like it the other way....

I add apps in the folders, and then I move the apps around in the folders....

Nova PRIME is "the launcher" to use... worth every Farthing I paid for it.

There are a few apps that IMNHO change the complexion of Android (saved it actually) ...

Nova Launcher – replace vendor launcher
Nova Launcher Prime - launcher
TeslaUnread (Nova) – display counts on icons needing action
Pixel Phone Pro – phone/contacts finally done right
SwiftKey Keyboard – keyboard replacement … it predicts what you are going to type
Tasker – complete automation facility
Tasker – completer scripting
Tasker App Factory – convert Tasker script to .APK file
Textra SMS – messaging

Hi

I'm using Nova prime.

So I groupers grouped some apps together into two folders so far.

When I hold down to move I get the ability to create a shortcut OK the home screen much like you place a widget. Or I get edit or delete at he top.

Edit gives me only this.
