Root [How To] Regain Root With S-Off or HTC unlocked bootloader

Ok, if anyone can help me that would be very helpful. I have S-On and Used Unrevoked and now I have clockwork installed and superuser. I used other app to see if I was rooted and I'm not. To turn S-Off would I just need to run Revoked again? I just need that damn S-Off and I can't do it.
Would I have to update the radio? or anything please I need help any quick replies please!?!

following the directions in the post sdraw linked, try using a few root apps, then clear the data in superuser(settings/apps/manage apps/superuser)

if that dpesnt work, download superuser and flash it in recovery: http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip

once superuser is working, youll need to follow the directions in either the thread s draw linked,or this one(f you got su by htcdev unlock):http://androidforums.com/incredible...ow-unlock-downgrade-achieve-s-off-htcdev.html

you will need to downgrade to froyo before you can use the exploit to get s-off.

Ok so I followed all the instructions to a T. But I'm have a very odd problem.

When I'm i fast boot it won't recognize PB31IMG.zip at all. It keeps checking for PG41DIAG...

I'm running an HTC unlocked EVO view and I've even tried renaming the PB31IMG to PG41DIAG but that just errors away.

I've tried googling PG41DIAG and google just recommends PG41img and DIAG just gives me a whole hell of a lot of Asian websites....

I've tried every thing I can think of to work this out but nothing works.

These instructions and files are ONLY for the htc incredible, trying to do this on your EVO, may brick it.

+1 to the above advice, I edited the OP to make it clear the files here are to only be used on the original Droid Incredible.

That said, you should be able to use the same basic steps, you would just need to find the appropriate clockwork zip that has been packaged for the Evo. Assuming you are talking about the Evo 4G, I believe it would be renamed to PC36IMG. The letter/number combo you are seeing when it flashes in the screen real quick isn't always the same as what you rename the file. If you are on a different version of the Evo (3D, etc), it would again be different files and nomenclature.

Then, you would also want to find the most recent, appropriate version of the su.zip for your phone. I would hope there is an unroot guide listed in the all things root subforum for your device here on AF. If you can't find one, make a new thread in the root forum there asking for some direction and I'm sure the root users there will get you fixed up.

Hmm... I came over here from the thread on rooting HTC Incredible without s-off. I have s-off. When I follow the instructions (using the superuser file I linked above) I get a message on the hboot screen saying "no image" followed by "no image or wrong image."

The file was about 3MB which seemed weird, so I found another one (linked on the other thread) that was 172MB but that one didn't work either.

Here are my specs:

Hboot 1.07.0000
Radio 2.15.10.12.20

Anything else I could try?

Hmm... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904

The link for superuser is at the top. Root instructions in step 3.

OK, I'm still not getting anywhere. Here's what I've tried:

Download PB31IMG.ZIP from this link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/uvha2u2pv3xp8d5/PB31IMG.zip
Renamed to simply PB31IMG (I also tried PB31.IMG on a hunch).

Download superSU from this link: http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip?retrieve_file=1

Download superuser from this link: http://htc.vi8.info/SuperUser/

Format my SD card in FAT32 (on my PC).

Place all four files on the SD card, pop it in my phone, boot to recovery (volume down/power on).

Some green text pops up and says:

SD Checking...
Loading...[PB31DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading...[PB31DIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading...[PB31IMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
What does it mean? I tried renaming the file to all of these versions and it didn't make a difference.

Here are my versions etc:

Hboot 1.07.0000
Radio 2.15.10.12.20

Bootloader is locked, but I already have s-off (from a previous root).

Any help greatly appreciated!

If you already have a custom recovery, the only file you need on the card is superuser. Take the pb31img file off the card and it will stop giving the wrong or no image error

I don't believe I have a custom recovery... a few years ago, before the last Verizon OTA updated, I rooted and installed CWM and cyanogen. Then I de-rooted, removed CWM etc, but left s-off, and got that last OTA.

Anyways, I tried what you suggested, just leaving superuser on the SD card and going into recovery. My phone has been sitting there with the red triangle logo for about 5 minutes now. Same thing for SuperSU.

Is there any hope for me?

Yeah i think we were under the impression that you had a custom recovery. You can pull the battery to restart the phone. Without a recovery and no root also, youll need to unlock your bootloader. Luckily you are already s-off so all youll really need to do is flash a different bootloader to an unlockable version. Youve already done most of the work being s-off.

OK that makes sense... is there a different sticky for that? It seems like I'm at the right place, but these steps aren't working. Another issue I'm having is that with Windows 10 I can't get the drivers working in order to use ADB.

I assume I need to get CWM on the phone somehow? Is there any way to do that without USB to a PC?

Unfortunately no..atleast not that im aware of. Dont believe any of the apps that do it will work without root. There are a few stickies. Id have to look for one again. As far as windows 10 drivers, i switched back to windows 7 because i got tired of drivers not ever working, so your guess is as good as mine.

Okay i think i have an easier solution. Register with the htcdev site. Go to unlock and hit begin. There will be a drop down to select your phone, and then it will give you a bootloader update with instructions on how to install it. Then after that process completes tou can use the tool on the site to unlock the bootloader. Detailed instructions will be provided for that process also. The process would relock a locked bootloader, but should leave you s off. Then you'll be able to flash the custom recovery and get rooted [emoji106]

OK I tried that, but had the same problem with drivers... when the phone is running normally my PC can see it, but once it goes to the bootloader, my PC recognizes that it's connected, but can't talk to it anymore :(. I'm going to see if I can find a Windows 7 or earlier PC to try it with.

Or, does any of this work from a Mac?

Unfortunately very little of rooting procedures works with mac. Mostly windows and a small percentage of linux
