Root [Boost Mobile] ROM's confirmed working for SPH-L710T

I checked the thread and, unless I missed it, I'm at a loss.

I flashed all of the AOSP ROMs with no issue for LTE/call/text. Then, I tried one of the TW ROMs along with the Kernel in the initial post. My LTE data stopped working, so I switched back to my original ROM...only to find that my LTE data doesn't work. Checked my MIN and MSID and they're both fine. When I tried updating my PRL and profile, it looked like it was able to connect and update; however, once it was done, it stopped working once more.

I'm on Ting (from VM) and I tried flashing the file linked in this forum for Ting APN's. It looks like it broke it even further, and I couldn't go back to re-update my PRL/profile. Luckily I can still get on CDMA, and I'd rather have slow data than no data, but I don't know what else to do.

You have the triband?

I do. Just remembered, I was dealing with activation issues a little while ago, and the person helping me linked to an article about how LTE on some devices won't work on some tribands. I noticed my phone wasn't on the list of ones that are known to work; still, there was a short time where my phone appeared to have no issue picking up the LTE signal. Not sure if that means my phone was actually malfunctioning to some degree then corrected itself, or if there's something I can do to get it back.

Have you tried the stock .tar in odin? That might be your best bet to get it back to fully functional. Make sure its a triband .tar like nf4 or oh1. Not nd8 or nj3.

Odin'd the stock .tar for my phone. (I didn't realize I even had it on my computer already.) It almost looked like it work but, alas, no luck. The LTE icon did appear on my phone, looking like it was working, but it still wasn't picking anything up. I turned off the toggle and then then turned it back on, and the LTE icon didn't appear again. Went back through and ensured the PRL/profile were good as well as the MIN/MSID - all good, but still no data.

If that doesn't work then, at that point, is it likely just something to do with Ting? Is there anything one can do beyond putting the stock .tar onto it? I'd say I can't imagine there is but, then again, I'm not knowledgeable on this stuff.

Have you tried the activation code in the dialer? I think it was *#data*# or ##data*# or something like that.

The code I was given for hands-free activation on Ting was ##72786#, if that's what you're talking about.

I did manage to access a data menu (##data#) but I'm not sure what I'm looking for specifically. Under the LTE tab it says LTE, Band26 and Band41 are all enabled. I was able to get into the editing side of the menu using my MSL (needed for editing the MIN/MSID earlier) but I'm not about to actually do anything to it.

Yeah that was the one I was thinking of (activation). Sometimes after flashing a few roms you have to do activation again.
Did you have lte before? Meaning are you sure it's in you area? Not sure what else it could be.

I definitely recall seeing the LTE indicator on my notification bar the first time I accessed mobile data after switching to Ting. I did try activation again, to no effect. I contacted Ting to see if they had any record of what kind of network I had connected to the first time, but they keep no such record. At this point, the only explanation I can think of for what's happened is that it had actually connected to CDMA and mistakenly showed the LTE indicator.

Kind of seems like this is hitting a dead end which, if that's the case, then I greatly appreciate the help you've offered. I was far more irritated when I thought I had lost all data, but 3g is better than no g's. If nothing else, the suggestion to flash that stock .tar helped get back my phone's boot animation, which I had managed to mess up with other tinkering - silver lining everywhere, no matter how thin.

Just for starters...did you happen to make a back up during a point at which you had LTE service? If you do, flash back to that Rom and kernel, do a clean wipe, and then restore the back up.

I went through this recently when I gave my Tri Band to my son. I had flashed back to stock rooted, tried to use the conquest kernel so I could continue to overclock. Realized I couldn't get service no matter what I did, including the APN fix. Located an old backup file in my laptop and went through the process above to repair.

All of the backups I've been using have been from a time during which I had LTE service. (It's only been my phone's original TW ROM and CM11, which I switched back and forth between as I worked out some other issues with my service.) I did flash kernels in the past but, finding they didn't work for me, reverting to an old backup always worked. I've yet to come across a kernel specific for the TW ROM; from the results I've had trying various AOSP kernels with CM11 (all of which broke my location services), I was hesitant to try it with Wicked X 8

(EDIT: to clarify, I've looked around at SPH-l710t kernels but haven't tried one yet. I thought re-flashing a backup would take care of it.)

Anyone know of a working version of cm12.1 for the triband?
OctosL is based on cm12.1. They have a build just for the triband. this is the thread on xda. The link to their site is in the op. On their site get the build for D2refreshspr, its also labeled galaxy s3 triband. You need the rom and their special build of twrp to install it. They are both on their site on the same page. Very easy to locate and install. Before you go and try without their twrp, don't. It won't flash without it. During the flash of rom it will ask your carrier (virgin\boost etc) . easy peasy. Super solid and stable. It's basically the only functioning cm12.1 based rom. If cm12.1 is what you want, I know you'll like it. It's all of cm and much more. Customizations are in "tentacles" (you'll see). Don't forget to get lollipop gapps (5.1.1 gapps actually).
Have fun!

OctosL is a great ROM, and I ran it for about a week without any major issues. It inspired me to start tinkering with android again, so I slapped together a build of cm 12.1. There were only minor tweaks that needed to be made to the d2spr device tree to get it up and running. 99% of it was changing the device name from d2spr to d2refreshspr so that it could be flashed through octos' twrp. I have one issue I have yet to sort out. For some reason I intermittently loose data after connecting to WiFi. The radio will cycle between CDMA and late with no issue and pick up new towers as I travel, but for some dumb reason it will occasionally drop data when connected to WiFi and does not reconnect. I was thinking maybe it's a bug with CM, but then again octos works great and it's based on CM.

Long story short. I wanted to make sure I wasn't beating my head acrossthe floor for no reason. If there was a working CM I'd move on to something else. In my opinion a diversity of ROMs is good for the community

I see. Thought you were looking for a rom. Lol. There are no posted builds of cm for the triband as far as I know. Someone posted instructions on how to edit roms to work on the triband on xda. I forget where it was, but it basically said you had to edit the modem firmware image.

Sorry. I should have clarified. I have built cm12.1 for the triband, but I have a few bugs to work out. My build box has a celeron 900 at 2.2ghz so each build takes about 15 hours. That being the case, I wanted to make sure I wasn't replicating someone else's efforts
Nope, sure aren't. There will undoubtedly be some happy triband owners.

Will it work with marshmallow?

I have used it on cm13, but there are issues with sim card detection. I got data text and calls working, with flashing rom, symlink fix, g apps, then vm apn fix. only issue was I couldnt sent or recieve mms. I had similiar issue on 5.1 with stock messaging apps but google messenger seems to do the trick althought it didnt help on cm13. im going to try textra or another app where i can manually set the apn and hope it works
