For people waiting for the iPhone instead of the droid.

Droid is better anyway. I'm convinced that Android will at least eventually kill the iPhone. I don't even know that much about either. But the fact that Apple's biggest new udpate for the iPhone is multitasking and Android has already had that since I'm assuming it's been out is kind of sad. Whereas Android will be getting flash integration with Froyo next month?

Just an FYI ...

The contract that allegedly states the five year exclusive deal could possibly already be nullified. Unfortunately, no one that is allowed to talk to the public about it has actually seen the contract, even though it gets referred to on a daily basis like it actually exists. But the reason I say that it could already be null and void is for several reasons ...

1. The whole fiasco in the major cities (New York, San Fran, Chicago, etc) where iPhones could never achieve full 3G and where always dropping calls. The reason I site this as a contract breaker is because of how worried Apple always seems to be about its image. These events could have portrayed Apple in a bad way, thus allowing them to terminate the contract and seek other carriers.

2. The recent event of Android outselling iPhone for the first time in the USA. This could be considered a deal breaker because AT&T promised Apple a hard core marketing strategy that obviously isn't working. Also, Verizon has pumped a lot of money into the Android line ... making them a primary candidate for Apple to release a device with, since they have shown such an ability to market and push a product.

Contracts are written and broken every day. Don't think that you won't see an iPhone in a Verizon store before 2012. It's very possible that they could be there by the end of this year. Since no one has ever publicly produced the "5 year contract", there is no way to know what terms were in the contract and whether or not the contract is allowed to be broken.

However, for the record ... I am 100% with all of you. Android is a phenomenal operating system and has always out performed every iPhone that I've played with. I can't wait to get my hands on a 4G (LTE) Droid (hopefully with a snapdragon or better processor)!!! :)

Better is always highly subjective. It may be better for you. It may be better for me. It may be better for any number of people. That doesn't mean it's universally better or that everyone will prefer the Droid. There just won't ever be one device that suits everyone.

As for killing the iPhone... the whole notion that any device is a "-killer" was tired long, long ago. It's not like the movie Highlander. There can be more than one smartphone on the market. I highly doubt that anything will kill the iPhone. It's only fanboys across the aisle that maintain that sort of mentality IMO.

I don't see how any of this could legally break a legal contract.

Look up the IBM/Microsoft contract for reference. (back in the 80's early 90's)

And after all, how could apple expect good 3G service when the first iPhone wasn't even 3G capable?

Or would could mention the one thing that gets any apple fanboy up in arms very quick and that is that the dropped calls were not the networks fault but the phones. I think apple wants more outlets in the states for the phone but I also think they are not sure if it is the phone or the network causing the problem. And if they go elsewhere and have the same problems then they can no longer pass the buck on it.

Cdma iphone is headed to the asian countries...

I luvs ya man, but most countries (including asian countries) do not use CDMA. Unless Apple had a big cost benefit (ie.. Iphone on the US #1 carrier), I don't think they would do it. To sell 20 or 30 thousand phones, compared to VZW's sales (probably in the hundreds of thousands easily) does not make sense. I guess (again, another rumor), we will find out in June. There is supposedly a Verizon/Apple co-press conference that is going to happen...

This is where the confustion stems from ... China runs "W"-CDMA, whereas Verizon runs on CDMA here in the states.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W-CDMA_(UMTS)

It's sad, I used to really keep up on all of the iPhone related news, but I've been so busy the last 6 months that it's fallen by the wayside. But at any rate, if I remember correctly, a WCDMA iPhone is most certainly headed to China. That's the last I remember.

Also, don't worry about the type of radio that is in a device (GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, LTE, etc) ... If a phone manufacturer wants to build a phone for a different network, they'll do it. It's just a matter of whether or not the manufacturer thinks they'll make enough money selling in that market. And Apple knows very well that they're going to make a killing in China.

Here's a serious question for everyone reading this ... If VzW were selling an iPhone, today, and you were up for a contract renewal ... Would YOU buy one?

Honestly? I wouldn't. I love my Droid, love how it works and even love the fact that I can come into a community like this and discuss how to make the product better or how to solve a problem. It's one heck of a package deal!

However ... I am anxiously awaiting Droid 2 (or whatever they're calling it) that will supposedly have an LTE radio and some form of 1 GHz or better processor. :D

To quote team america, "jesus titty-f*cking christ"

The iphone is not coming to verizon, all these rumors exist because people want it- it's just wishful thinking.

Why would you think it will never come to Verizon? I honestly do not think it will happen this year or maybe not even next year. But I do think it will happen eventually, like you said people want it. I think it is bound to happen some time, but no one knows for sure.
