Pay no attention to waitingforskyrim2's post since you want a Sprint rom. He posted links to the Boost/virgin rom.

You could also flash NJ2 TAR instead, it's newer. Then reboot and you'll get an OTA update to OH1. After the update reboot into download mode and flash TWRP with Odin from the link I posted a few posts back and proceed with rooting.

Here is the NJ2 TAR:

You have to flash the moderm if you flash the zip. Its how its done even says in the instructions.
Well no. You linked the ndc .tar then the ndc rom zip. No one needs both. If you flash the ndc .tar, you're done. If you have already flashed the ndc .tar in the past or have taken the ndc update, then flashed various roms and now want to go back to stock; that's when you flash the ndc zip in recovery. If you have never updated to ndc (or nd8.) then you need the tar first.
Misinformation is a dangerous thing indeed. Those instructions are pretty old (ndc .zip). They are referring to coming from jellybean, that's why they say to flash modem. None of us are coming from jellybean so....

But as mydian pointed out, its nj2 now. I was just using ndc as an example of when you need a .tar and when you need a .zip. Besides, ndc is only for virgin mobile and boost mobile.

That sounds like what was originally suggested to me. Good deal! Another question I have is: Do I need to format the XD card before I start or will it be done in the process? I suppose also I would need to put the apps back on by the app store until I take the update and re-root with TWRP. I have Super S.U. but I think you have to be rooted to use it.

No need to wipe sd card. You can backup your apps with titanium, then restore them after you re root. Or fresh installs from play store are fine too.

http://androidforums.com/threads/virgin-mobile-ndc-vs-nd8.851850/

If you dont know the difference between ndc and nd8 reading that thread in the link above may help clear up somethings.

Read the first post in this thread. He wants a SPRINT rom. Trust me, Madbat and I both know the difference we've been using this phone and active on this forum since 4.1.2 Jelly Bean was the current firmware. ND8 is the Sprint rom, NDC was released a week later for Boost and Virgin. Yes they are "almost" the same thing. Yes if you have a Sprint phone you can technically try NDC but why? You won't be able to hack the Wifi hotspot to work for free like you can on ND8. MMS won't work since there is no Sprint APN fix like a Boost or Virgin user might need for ND8 (see post #15 in the thread you linked). It will have problems. Not to mention it is old. Any Sprint user should be flashing NJ2 not the old, and wrong firmware, you posted a link to. I know you're just trying to help but you weren't around when KitKat came out for this phone so you didn't get to see the problems people had when trying things out.

edit: and btw, the thread you posted is Virgin and Boost users talking about trying out the 2 different roms. Some people like the NDC modem better but it only works with the NDC bootloader or a modified kernel if using the ND8 bootloader. Then MMS won't work right for Sprint users, something you don't see mentioned in that thread because those aren't Sprint users. *sigh* Once again, old news and no point. NJ2 is where it's at not that old stuff.

Flashing the rom with Odin will not wipe the SD card. If you want to do so you'll need to do that separately. But you don't have to.

Nd8 updates to nj2, and ndc goes to nj3 and then Oj1. The official update was made for the virgin mobile variant only and wasnt meant to be installed over sprint software. Boost mobile didn't even get the update.

Why are you trying to start an argument? I have Boost Mobile, and yes I did get the NDC, then NJ3, and just recently OJ1 updates. They run the exact same firmware as Virgin and always have.
