Yeah I like KDE but yes its buggy I still use a few KDE programs so I have some KDE overlay but it works for me. I always have my taskbar at the top of my screen rather than at the bottom. Just makes more since to me to be there lol.
I like that cinnamon is light weight and faily customizable. Since I use the command line a lot more now a days I feel its much snappier than it was on a bloated KDE system.

I also have the command bar at the top. and the window controls on the left...

Well I finally got of my duff and installed Fedora 23 w Cinnamon. I did a clean install to rid all the kde stuff I had in my home folder and all and only reinstalled the few kde apps I like to use. With my setup script that I wrote it only took about 45 minutes to install the OS add / remove apps and get the look and feel I want and recover the backup I made prior to the install. I remember the days it would take 45 minutes just to get to a point of installing.

Computer is super smooth and it running great.

No doubt, Fedora 23 is a very nice OS once you get the Desktop of your choice installed. And fortunately, there's plenty of choices. I like .rpm distros best so I'm happy that IMHO Fedora is the best all-around workstation distro available. Others may work better for specific needs, but for general-purpose uses ya just can't do much better than Fedora. On my new little Shuttle MiniPC it's just terrific.

I wouldn't say your strange You like what you like thats why there are so many options with Linux so we can have it Our Way.

Well I came back to Linux after a few years away, and things have moved on a lot. I just find that Unity is very easy to use, and does everything I want. Although I think a lot of hardened Linux users still prefer the configurability of KDE, and don't like Unity.

I don't know I mean I still know people who use and like Gnome 3. KDE kinda reminds me of AOL back in the day. They just want to give you everything on a silver platter. I don't guess there is anything wrong with that but its not for all of us. I love the fact that in Linux I can run several DE's and not have any adverse affect on my system. Of course I only run one and for now I'm liking Cinnamon. Its light weight, customizable and very snappy.

I've installed Mint + Cinnamon on my OH's laptop. It's nice and easy to use UI.

Been Using the Mint Cinnamons for a cpl years and they've been phenomenal. I think I've overloaded my system with too many apps/scripts that perform same functions (cuz of zip fileroller type conflicts) and I'm not sure where the problem is, Lmao. So I'm gonna do a wipe & reinstall to start over.. There IS a new Mint 17.3 Cinnamon recently released to try..

As much of a fan as I am of Red Hat/CentOS for servers, I can't seem to warm up to Fedora for my desktop. I've tried many distro/desktop combinations over the years and I keep coming back to Mint/Cinnamon. Any of them are perfectly workable as long as you can easily get to a terminal session.

I liked Unity in its early incarnations, and had customized the bar quite a bit... but then they started pushing things into it (Ubuntu One, et al), that I felt was too intrusive, too commercial; and I switched to Mint Cinnamon.

Cinnamon was still a fairly new DE back then, and I had issues getting a desktop that I wanted, though I did like Cinnamon quite a bit and @MoodyBlues badgered me into trying KDE again (didn't like it the first two times I tried it out, but third time was a charm).

Now I am rockin' the KDE interface, though I still prefer Gnomish programs and tools. Mayhaps I will install a modern Cinnamon and see if it will work for me now...

One of the things I like about the latest dolphin in KDE is the F4 key press brings up the terminal as a new frame in the explorer and not just bring up a terminal window. This can be useful.

That is nice to know. Thanks for that tidbit.

Now if only they could incorporate the mass-rename functions of Thunar...

I've been rocking debain with xfce for quite some time... it's nice. I don't need anything too fancy and xfce reminds me of gnome 2.

XFCE and Gnome 2 were my favorites. Personal preference. MATE desktop isn't too bad either.

I don't have linux installed on my Alienware because of games compatibility. I know I could use WINE and steam but meh.

I do need to update my Toshiba though to something. Possibly back to Arch. Haven't messed with that in a long time.

I just discovered this Forum, and I sure am glad... added it to my favorites....

Started on page 1, then gave it all up..... went to 96 and read the last two pages... as that is all I am familiar with....
being a newbie, all of 8 weeks old now :lol:

in the Windows thread, I have mentioned that I tried a lot of LiveCDs and found that Mint Cinnamon to be the most "familiar environment" for me to try to get into Linux..... I have it on my laptop and quite pleased with the results.

over the last 20 years, I have attempted to use UNIX and then Linux, and the Vertical Learning Curve stopped me dead cold....

Mint 17.3 Cinnamon has pushed me over the edge, and I don't even have any scars on my face.

I'm also glad that @SuperR pointed me to Mint Cinnamon for dealing with Android work. Having come from Win98 & XP beforehand, Mint Cinnamon was a darn blessing! Loving it.

I've been using UNIX very happily for about 8 years now, and wanted to continue with it, that's why I bought the new MacBook Air last September.
Mac OS X is a UNIX!

It's based on UNIX but falls much farther from the original UNIX tree than Linux.

I'm still amazed at the flexibility and adaptability of UNIX. After all these years it has yet to be matched.
