Are smartwatches worth it yet?

I have tried some in the past, when they first came out and I was disappointed. They are great for some people I guess but they have major flaws I can't get past. I was playing with a buddy's apple watch and they have seem to come a long way. I am not a fan of apple one bit but I must admit, his watch worked better than I remembered mine working. So the question of the day for me is... Are smartwatches worth it now?

What did you try before and what 'major flaws' did you find?

I have a Moto 360 1st gen, it's great.
I agree, that's some important info. I'm using a Huawei Watch I was given for testing and review and I'm very happy, though not thouroughly convinced it is worth the money for all people.

Here's a link to a great review for someone that went from a Pebble (early smart watch) to the Huawei Watch and his thoughts.

I have a Sony Smartwatch 3, refurbished. :( Considering some minor problems wont exist on a new one for $250, I feel that it is a good companion. I found usefulness in viewing PDF's on my wrist for studying notes from or such, sometimes browsing social media. It's also nice to have your wrist watch notify you when you have a text and can reply to it from you wrist when your phone is elsewhere across the room. It's also a handy pedometer once you use google fit with it. I personally like it as a companion, I assume other android wear devices are the same.
The only problem I have with android wear is that it seems to leave alot to be desired, such as the apps having some limited features (Why can't I set up manual workouts on the google fit app from my smartwatch? Who knows?) Also when you just play around with it, there seems to be some other things missing I suppose, I don't know what exactly. Also I have no seen my smartwatch being useful with just wifi and no bluetooth with my phone.

It kind of is a novelty still, but you can give it a try, at least for android wear I'm not sure how pebble and samsung is but I assume they're great as well.
